By L. A. Eaton A tough Although the Eagles dont want to dwell on the past, several players are back from a season that may have prepared them well fitr this year. "I think the Rich game was a character builder, said Allen. .We had two juniors and two sophomores who played almost the whole time, which is a game and a half. Three players graduated, but the Eagles size and speed with Jared Mitchell and Jason Young who made the team and Alan Spencer who made the team. .The Eagles will rotate eight players with senior Spencer at center and seniors Mitchell, Bret Sorenson and Shannon Pea trass at the forward positions. At guard will be seniors Young and Ryan Harrison and juniors Robbie Bench and Travis Grant. The team also includes forwards Donny Grant, Conley Moon and . pniauon schedule has always been a part of the Duchesne boys badtetball pro- gram, said head eoach Stan Allen. Weve always tried to play teams as tough as we can find, said Allen in his eleventh year at Duchesne. Thats what has made us successful. This season has the toughest schsdule Ive ever been able to come up with. The Eagles will start with Wasatch, Friday, followed by teama like Morgan, Uintah and Ogden. The first home .game for the Eagles is December 16 against region foe Grsen River. Duchesne coaches believe in hard preeeaaon games to prepare players for region and state competition. Last season the Eagles took first in Region 13, but lost to game jitters in five overtime periin the ods against Rich, consolation round in state action. Last year we had an easier , All-Regi- All-Stat- 84-8- 2, e Bart Sorenson, and guard De Loy Brady. These are guys who have played basketball for a lot of years, said Allen. Theyre a very close knit group and the most competitive group Ive worked with." The players get together once a week for game night to watch game films or simply socialise. They've all grown up together in classes, basketball and football. When I was a freshman, the older guys didnt like us, said cocaptain Young. Now everyone is a team and we hang around each other a lot Young; at 6T1 hopes the Academic All-Sta- te to make Team, which he accomplished as a football player this year. The junior already has plans to attend a college to poesibly pursue mathematics and to go on a IDS mission. Hell get a lot of support from the basketball team. There isnt a player out there on our practice court who has a GPA under 3 5, row (left to right); Robbie Bench, Bret Sorenson, Jason Travis Grant, Bait voting, Shannon Fpatrfcss and Ryan Harrison.
