Show Page 14, June 10. 1987 Education Uintah Basin Standard "' Powell named Taylor attends seminar All-Ameri- can The National Secondary cation Council announced that weekend long participating in leadership training seminar June Lea- Aeademie Scholar Award Program in order to offer deserved recognition to superior students who excel in the Aeademie disciplines. The Academic Scholars must earn a 8.8 or better grade point average. Only Scholars selected by a secondary school instructor, counselor, or other qualified sponsor are accepted. These scholars are also eligible for other awards given by., the NSEC. These are awards few students can ever hope to attain. LEARNING FIRST AID These Cub Scouts were just a small handful of the large turnout that converged on the Regional Park last Saturday. These scouts were being taught the importance of good first aid. Suzette was presented a scholarship to Utah State. Both graduated from four years of Seminary. John Merkley and son from Smith field are weekend visitors at the Clyde Merkley home. Evan and Leslie Ahlborn, Twin Falls, Idaho are in Tridell visiting their grandparents, Margaret and Ernest Ahlborn while their parents fly to Sao Paulo, Brazil to pick up their son Elder Ernest S. Walker has been named a United States National Award winner in Honor Roll and Leadership. This award is a prestigious honor very few students can ever hope to attain. Walker, son of Alan and Debra Walker, Upalco, has been named as a national award winner in leadership and honor roll categories. all American High School students. The program was founded by Mr. Hugh OBrian over 10 years ago, in an effort to reward those young people who have a positive influence on society and display leadership qualities. The weekend activities at the Utah Seminar included a meeting with Governor Norman Bangerter at the State Capital Building, a tour of a local television station and seminars on a variety of subjects including; Who Influences the News, Education thru Military, Women in Business, Education and special diploma as they are awarded degrees.
