" City accepts multi million dollar bid substantially finished by the first of November, the contract date expires on December 19. The contractors will be installing two different pipes from the wells. The engineers estimate originally called for Ductile Iron Pipe to be used for the entire project. But the City Council decided to use a pretension concrete cylinder pipe for much of the water lines because it could save the City some $150,000 and still do a good job. Pipe will soon be laid to bring the water from the Hayden Wells into Roosevelt The contract to install from the Hayden Wells Roosevelt has been awarded to the low bidder, Western Utilities Contractors, for $3,164,610. The contract was formally awarded by the City Council at their weekly meeting on Monday. The bid was 11 percent lower than the estimate said Rex Harrison, an engineer from Horrocks Engineers. Western Utilitiee Contractors should be able to start stringing the pipe within the next week; The company is from Pleasant Grove, and is one of the biggest pipe design contractors in the state said Harrison. The job is expected to be The Council passed a motion to issue a change order on the concrete pipe for the larger line. The concrete pipe is perfectly acceptable to the engineer that dont require a lot of tapping. The upper portion of the fa-line- s Hayden Line wont have any individual tap ins, and the concrete pipe should be fine for the situation, said Glen Vernon, City Administrator. In other derisions on the Hayden Wells, the Council decided to give the go ahead to start the process to drill a third well on the Hayden site. There presently are two wells on the site, and this engineer recommended that an additional well be built to add stability and reliability to the system. The City will be able to meet peak demands easier with the third well said Harrison, and be more confident to provide water if one well breaks down. The Hayden Wells are being constructed in several construction phases. The most expensive part of the $5,500,000 project is the construction of the main line. Other contracts will be given out fa the construction of a two million gallon storage reservoir at an estimate of nearly $1 million. Contracts will also be awarded fa well rehabilitation of $70,000 and the construction of a third well at $87,787. The total professional services will cost the City an estimated $444,600. The project to bring water to Roosevelt will be substantially completed this fall. The line from the wells will travel to Needs, which is planning to buy the water on a wholesale level from a master meter said Vernon, down the Highway into a storage tank with future hydropower potential, into town. Stevenson to discuss History made the building, the Myton Fire Department entered the scene with their oxygen tanks and masks ready. Luckily, the fire was centralized in pallets of shreded paper, lignite, and gelatin which didnt cause a very toxic smoke problem, at least not an toxic as it could have been. With both of Mytons fire trucks and all three of Roosevelts trucks on the scene, the manpower was sufficient but the water supply was lacking, so the call went out and five trucks from Duane Hall Trucking responded with backup water supply. Burke Eldredge was the first fireman to enter the building, via an access he had chopped in the metal sheeting. He proceeded to open the doors, sans oxygen equipment, which provided both access to the fire and an opportunity fa the smoke in the building to dissipate. Until that time the firemen had to combat the fire through the melted fiberglass panels that had been the light panels in the upper rear of the building. According to one DMI spokesman the total damage to the contents and the building is less than $26,000. This includes the one steel beam that was twisted from the heat of the fire, and replacing the metal panda in the rear of the building which were torn out by a backhoe to provide access to the smoldering pallets. The fire was brought under control shortly afte the access was gained to the building, but since the fire was in pallets of material the actual tune from being called out until the fire was extinguished was some three hours. This was due to the but that the material had to be removed from the building soaked and disbursed before it was extinguished. The DMI spokesman stated that the fire hasnt hindered his ability to provide any products to his customers. Weve got the ; ability to bring in any quanity of material," he claimed. |
