Moot held for German pupils On Tuesday, March 20 the German division of the Duchesne District Foreign Language Fair was held at Duchesne nigh achooL The fair is to further the learning of foreign languages in this areas schools by providing an avenue of competition for the participants. Participating in this years fair under the direction of John Footer, were Altamont Jr. high, Duchesne high, and Union. The winner of the fair was Union with 44 points followed by Duchesne with 84. The fair was divided into four k. POETRY First, Diane Steinhorst, Union; second, Jeff Burton, Union; third, Mard Entwisle, Duchesne. This years fair was an expansion over last years in that formerly it consisted of vocabulary and a spelling bee. VOCABULARY First, Diane Steinhorst, Union; second, Sherilyn Mom, Duchesne; 7 Standard Union Midterm third, Shaunna Prescott, Duchesne. CULTURAL BOWL First place went to Union with a team consisting of Allen Bergquist, Diane Berggren, Jeff Burton, Brett Campbell, and Diane Steinhorst. SKITS First place went to Duchesne high with a team consisting of Marei Entwisle, Tom Burdick, Shaunna Prescott, John Overton, Jayleen Taylor and Jeff Ercan-brac- categories; vocabulary, eultural bowl, skits and poetry. Mid-terreports provide an opportunity to atudents to meet with their teachers to see their progress (or lack of it) during quarter. Each student will, be provided with a form in their' firat period classes and are. instructed to discuss academic progress and attendance with each teacher that day. Poster Toni Hadden and Mike Rosa have been named atudenta of the month for March at Union high achooL Mike is the son of Larry and Cranio Rosa of Myton. He waa named all region and in Duchesne school honors students contest starts Duchesne high and Jr. high school students that made the third quarter honor roll listed last week. The third quarter found five students with a straight 4.0 or A A poster contest is being sponsored by the Citizens for Drug'Free Youth. The citizen task force is organizing a poster contest for grades 3 through 12 on the theme Alcohol-Drug- s with Be Smut, Dont Start prises donated by. local merchants. The prizes for first place are $26 gift certificates from Childrens Den, Trails End and Smileys Sporting Goods. Second Place winners could get a $10 certificate from Marions or the Frontier Grill or a medium pizza fiom Pizza Hut Third prize for each category of poster is a pair of complimentary tickets to either of Roosevelt's theatres. The contest will be divided into three age groups. The first division will he grades three to six, the next is grades seven to nine, and the final is grades ten through twelve. They will field aueetfona on language, manners, liveatyle, history and other aspects of the German culture.
