This past weekend the Heber Valley Triathalon waa held and Roosevelt resident Barry Southerland competed, but more importantly finished! Of the approximately 400 entrants in the event, Barry finished about 160th, although the official results have not yet been received. Barrys time was four hours and 56 minutes. The event began with one mile swim in the waters of Deer Creek Reservoir. Following that, competitors peddled their bicycles over a 41 mile course before donning jogging shoes and running 13.1 miles to the finish line. Barry said the winner of the triathalon crossed the finish line in hours while about three and one-hathe slowest finisher took nearly eight hours. The event may have only took four hours and 65 minutes for Barry, but he said four months of solid training were required for the event. He explained that he works e for the Soil Conservation Service and adds that getting in the needed training wasnt always easy. He said for the last month of his training he became involved in what he tamed "very heavy" aerODws. ne explained that for the last month he was running about ten miles a day, riding his bicycle approximately 30 miles pa day, and was also across Bottle Hollow swimming Reservoir each day.
