Teenage Pregnancy Mrs. Toni Speed, U.B. Health Department, previewed, with the Board, a health film entitled Do You Want To Dance" on the problem of teenage pregnancey. The Board approved ofthe film to be shown to PTA Groups and to District Science Teachers .so that it can possibly be incorporated into one of the health units taught in each school PfnaHat Mr. Chris Denver and Mr. Frank Frustenberg, representing the Pizza Hut of Roosevelt, met with the Board to request a right of way in order to have an exit from the Pizza Hut (to be situated on the corner directly northwest of Union high school) into Union Street (private roadway owned by school district). This was approved . by 20 the Board provided that Pina Hut install curb, gutter and sidewalk along the entire length of its East boundary well as install (along Union Street) no parking signa, no right turn sign and spike oneway barrier at the exit. The management of Pisa Hut will also be expected to cooperate with school officials by not serving students during u school hours. TwoGraats Superin tendant Caldwell reported that two grants have been received for North School for the upcoming school ! year, one in amount of $16,000 from the State and one in amount of $9,000 from the Ute Indian Tribe. Approved Purchases The Board approved the purchase of 114,422,19 worth of equipment for. the School Lunch Program Approval' was also given to pay $4,161 in annual dues to the Utah School Boards Association. The Board also approved of the Tennis court lighting committee of Roosevelt making improvements to the Union high school tennis courts, this at no cost to the school district (courts are used by the public as well as by the . school). Teacher Merit Pay Teacher merit pay programs were discussed; the Board approved of establishing a committee constating of representatives from school administration, education association and Board of Education to study merit pay and teacher evaluation programs and make recommendation to the Board for possible implementation of a merit pay i in the District Input will also lit from the USBA. Science Teacher ef the Year ' Mr. Caldwell reported that he has nominated Union high school teacher, Randy Merrill, to the State office of Education for consideration for Science Teacher of the Year) If selected, Mr. Merrill would receive a $5,000 grant from the state for his department at Union and an expense paid trip to Washington, DC, to observe programs, etc. School District crews have been busy this past week preparing the foundation for the new FOUNDATION WORK bleachers at Union high school. The work is being done with a grant from the State of Utah. It is hoped to begin installing bleachers next week. returned home from a nine day visit in Santa Monica, Calif, with her daughter ROOSEVELT NEWS and family, Mr. and Mrs. Steven (Janet) Marsh.- While there she attended graduation for her oldest Gladys Ross e Approximately 135 young women from eight Wards of Roosevelt Stake attended a Young Woman's Camp at Whiterocks Canyon, Tuesday through Friday under the direction of St Camp specialists Beta Allred and Beckie Thacker. Special activities were first evening, a spiritual Fireside, Special guest apeakers were Lynn and on Susan Lemon, Price; personal improvements, evening skits, handicraft taught by Deon and Delaine Bird and a testimony meeting was held the last evening, all eight Bishops and many parents attended. Twenty-sevegirls hiked to the Whiterocks Caves and other participated in three and five grandson, Damon Marsh, from Venice high school and grandson Bryon Marsh from Junior high school She also attended sessions at the Los Angeles Temple. DUCHESNE NEWS Tamera Gamer mini-class- n mile hikes. e A group of senior dtisens went to Manti Thursday to attend the Mormon Miracle 'Pageant. e Mary Reed Hansen, wife of Reed Hansen, died July IS. She was born August 11, 1921 at FL Duchesne to Charles E. Reed and Louise Gujon Reed. Married Reed Hansen June 28, 1948. She was a graduate of Oklahoma College for Women. Survivors indude husband, son Mark Hansen, staters, Margaret Phillips, Vernal and Louise Guttery, Holbrook, Arizona, and Arlene Reed, Roosevelt. Funeral services were held Saturday July 16, at St Helen Catholie Church with Father y ''Dave Richardson officiating. Burial Y was in. the Vernal cemetery. Monday and Tuesday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrell Jensen were his brother and wife Mr. and Mrs. Ray Jenaen, Tilton, Georgia, and sister Cora Madson, Las Vegas, e Mr. and Mrs. Marion Southern recently received a telephone call from their son Clinton, Sioux City, Iowa that he haa received a new calling in the LDS Church as a High Councilman. He is employed as a pilot for the Thelma Ivie Thomas Merkley, Vernal has just returned from an LDS Church Mission in Saskatchewan and Albora Province, Canada. She waa a guest if her sister, Mariam Young, at the Senior Citizens luncheon at Duchesne Thursday. e Charlie Hatch, Orem, is a week resident of Duchesne as field office manager for the Utah Department of Transportation on Main Street. e He was another guest at the senior dtisens luncheon July 14. e Mrs. Mariam Young, Parry and Zalla Grant, Duchesne, and Neilo Hicks and Minnie Hamilton, Tabiona, went with the senior dtisens group to the Manti Pageant last Thursday afterfive-da- y first-tim- noon. Tanya Duran, Ogden, has been visiting in Duchesne with her grand- parents Mr. and Mrs. Glen Mecham. . . Bailey were held Saturday July 16 at the Roosevelt Second Ward ChapeL Burial was at the Nephi Cemetery, e Friday overnight guests of Dr. and Mrs. Daniel Dennis were their son and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Blaine Dennis, Provo, their mother, Mollie Bailey and Matt MerrilL They eame to attend funeral services for their father and husband, David L. Bailey, e Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Cook and family. Salt Lake, were Saturday guesta of their aunt, Mrs. Zelma Lloyd, e Mr. and Mrs. Devpre Hancock, Mr. and Mrs. Mike Hancock and Mr. and Mrs. Brad Hancock recently attended a Darrell Dean family reunion in Amalia, New Mexico. e Mrs. Wanda Reynolds, Merle Ross and Pearl Stubbs spent Saturday in Provo attending sessions at the Provo Temple. e Mr. and Mrs. Ace Davis have a new baby daughter born July 6 at St Marks Hospital, Salt Lake. Activities of the day included games, lunch and business meeting to update family history an elect officers. The five living children of Mr. Angus in attendance were Elmer Angus, Thelma Anzlikouski, Eunice Cook, Edna Remund, and Eva Perdval and their families. e Mary Reynolds and daughters Lori and Richelle, Las Vegas, were recent visitors at the Howard Reynolds residence.
