A child will survive quite nicely in a home without a color TV, or without many other things we've come to regard as necessary. But a child who is not taught a love for reading will grow up sadly neglected. While considerable smut and violence is found in print these days, the essence and knowledge of all that is civilized and good can be found between the covers of books. Several changes are taking place in this years conferences to make them more convenient, as well as meaningful, to parents. This year the conferences will begin at 1:30 p.m. and continue until 8 p.m. This is for the convenience of working parents. The conference will be a three-waconference that includes the student, their advisor and the parents. During the year students have been constructing a file of examples of their class work. It will be the responsibility ol the student to explain his educational progress to his parents. The advisor will be there to help in this process. Appointments will be made for specific times so that parent! can come and meet at a set time and leave without waiting in lines. Individual teacher conference will not be held at this time, but can be arranged at this meeting to be held at another time. Students will not attend school this day, only to the conference with their parents. We hope this new method of evaluating school progress will be more meaningful to parents and much more accountable for their students. er h Elder Mark P.
