We are now in fiscal 1982. With last year's reports and summaries having been finished, projections for new and continuing programs are now being reviewed. The question of money is a large part of these programs. The size takes of the budget sometimes priority. The need to cut back Federal , expenditures is a very real one, one that all support. But there are several types of Federal expenditures that must be made because they are investments in this Nation's productivity. Many of the Federal programs that have grown up over the last decade or so are not investment programs, they are consumptive programs. There is a vast difference between spending for consumption and investing to protect or improve our productivity. The current economic situation here in the Basin encourages farmers to push their land and water to its absolute limits, and to put off the or practices for another year or two, hoping that they can somehow survive and do their conservation later. Later'' is now on too many acres of the Basin's farmland. Too many farmers have not been investing in soil conservation for several years now, and the price the public will pay if they do not help these people invest in effective soil conservation far exceeds the cost of the total dollars spent today by Federal, State and local government We have to cut spending, but we cant stop investing in the future of the land. but That would be a penny-wis- e pound-foolis- h fea uW2biiMF&DZ)J APPue enn ( ce(fir CUR)0OKAU rifle will be given away on Friday, October 16. Yergensen, Roosevelt has been elected to membership in the American Angus Association, reports Dick Spader, executive of the national organization. The American Angus Association, with some 38,000 active life and junior members, is the largest beef cattle registry association in the world. Its computerized records include detailed information on nearly 10 million , registered Angus. The Association records ancestral information and keeps records of production on individual animals for its members. These permanent records help members select and mate the best animals in their herds to produce high quality, efficient breeding cattle which are then recorded with the American Angus Association. Most of these registered Angus are used by the U.S. farmers and ranchers who raise high quality beef for UJ5. consumption. ffwq OIL mm whoi -- lS FAfER-TOUUE- urrcR Borne TISSUE S7i Of)1 KRAFT LIBBMS MIRACLE UJWP Mirach Whip ' uVi'SUfcETeJeD loo 8F ML WAHS UWt paOCKIAlL.
