National Consumer Bank gets help from congress ment for local cooperative endeavor Congress should continue full funding for the National Consumer Cooperative Bank to provide it the resources needed to strengthen and expand cooperatives which can provide important services to rural and urban consumers alike, the National Farmers Union says. Testifying before the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on agencies, Roy L. Holman, Farmers president of the Utah-Idah- o Union, said the National Consumer Cooperative Bank in its one short year of operation already has proved its worth to; the nations cooperatives. It would be imprudent to kill it or damage its future effectiveness just as it is becoming the successful instru that Congress intended," Holman said. Holman said that cooperatives in rural areas can be instrumental in providing many needed goods and services that are not provided by traditional businesses to rural residents. "Although the Co-o- p Bank has made a decided effort to communicate with rural people and to make its services available to them, it will take time for people in rural communities to take advantage of its services," Holman said. Therefore, Holman urged Congress to provide adequate funding for the new agency so that the Consumer Co-o- p Bank can continue to help both urban and rural consumers nt Allan Smith Cloward and Roberts are honored enrolls herd after Provo LDS Temple marriage in T.P.R.
