The couple plan to be married Thursday, Dec. 27, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Miss Ross is a 1978 graduate of Union high school where she was active in the Future Business Leaders of America, and the Future Homemakers of America. The handcart experiences of the Mormon pioneers will pome alive for hundreds of youth next summer when they push and pull their own handcarts on treks through the wilds of Utah's Wasatch Mountains. The Pioneer Trek program, sponsored by the Department of Youth and .the Division of Leadership Continuing Education at Brigham Young University, will have special significance for participants this year because the LDS Church is celebrating its sesquicentenniaL Some of the youths are already preparing by sewing their own pioneer clothing, assembling personal camp gear and participating in physical fitness programs. Like the original handcart pioneers, these companies require considerable preparation before they begin to push and pull and go marching up the hilL" While youth participants prepare at home, leaders and advisors at BYU are getting the handcarts ready and preparing the other equipment that will be used for the treks. The handcarts are authentic replicas of those used by the Mormon pioneers in the Every week during June, July and August, a different handcart company made up of about 180 youth will wind its way over primitive trails in Utah's mountains. Pioneer games, outdoor cooking, square dancing, church services and other activities will highlight each trek experience. The treks are conducted in different areas of the Wasatch Mountains so as not to impact too heavily on the environment in any one location.
