The Dinos were not in strong in the track events, but also in field competition. The javelin event found Lee Prettyman finishing ahead of the competition in the mens event, and Emily Rice also placed first in the girls gave all the schools the opportunity to see what events each school was strong in, and what events are in need of improve- ment As expected, Melanie Madsen lead the Dinos team with strong finishes in all events she competed in. In the 3200 meter run, Madsen set a personal best time or 12 minutes, 23 seconds, while finishing in first place in the event. Tfeammate Janel Bates followed Madsen in the event, with a third place finish. ' Madsen also completed the 1600 meter run with a first place finish, followed by Ashley categoiy. Finally, Alicia fonts placed first in the high jump followed by three of her teammates to complete a successful region . Rowley who placed fifth in the event The mens 3200 meter run found the Dino team dominating the event Cody Butler set the pace in the event and lead from the start to the finish, with a first place victory. Seth Marsing fin- ished in second place, while Issac Goodrich placed third. The mens 1600 meter run also found the Dino team finishing strong, with Butler placing fourth and Goodrich finishing in fifth place. : Marsing continued to dominate the competition in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:05, boosting Marsing to another first place victory. v eight meet After completing a successful series in Delta, the Dinos then travelled to Moab to compete. in the first qualifying meet for the team. The event was held March 23, with approximately 20 teams competing. Madsen once again had a successful meet, beginning with a second place finish in the 3200 meter run. Once again, Madsen outdone her personal best time that she set in Delta, with a 12 minute, 21 second finish. Scott fony had a strong race for the Dinos in the 3200 meter run in the mens categoiy. Terry fell out of first place by one second in the last 200 meters of the race. Butler finish behind "ferry with a third place victoiy, with both runners completing their best personal times thus far this season. The 1600 meter run found Madsen finishing in fourth place, and Scott also placing fourth in their respected categories. Rowley, and Stephanie Cox each showed good promise in the 800 meter run. Both ladies competed strong and finished near the front of the pack, despite not placing in the event. The mens 800 meter run was also represented well by the Dinos, with Marsing placing third in the event. Julian had a dynamite meet in Moab. She finished in first place in the finals of the 400 meter dash, after qualifying first over all in the preliminary heats. Julian also made it to the finals in the 200 meter dash, and finished in seventh place. Cora Broadbear has one of the biggest hearts of the team and is determined to compete at her best. After competing in two meets, Broadbear hit a hurdle or two, leading to her falling on the ground. This did not stop the gutsy runner as she got back up and proceeded to the next hurdle. Although most runners would give up, Broadbear did not, and the determination paid off, with a fourth place finish in the 300 meter low hurdles event held in Moab. The mens hurdles also found Carbon competing strong. Bryan Stewart placed seventh in the high hurdles, despite not qualifying for the finals in the 300 low hurdles by one place. In the field events, Becky Unsworth placed second in the ladies discus, while Prettyman placed fourth in the javelin in the men's event. Torres was the only athlete from Carbon to make a state qualifying mark. Torres not only won the high jump event, but automatically qualified for the state competition in her first qualifying meet. The Dino relay team also did quite well at the Moab meet, with the girls taking first place in the 4x100 with Julian, Cox, Broadbear, and Marquette Potts competing in the event. The medley team also finished strong with a third place victory with team members Broadbear, Andraya Newby, Torres, and Madsen. The men's relay team also did well in the 4x400 category, with a second place finish, falling out of first place by victoiy by only a few steps. Members of the successful relay team include Terry, Joe Palmer, Butler, and Marsing. The top four places in each event received medals. The Dino team had a fine showing, and plan to continue the running success at the next meet to be held at Emery High on April 2 at 3:30 p.m. -- 'W',, i , A f ' . ; I ' .
