Show THE SAN JUAN RECORD Wednesday, October 10, 2001 - Pap 16 AUDREY ADAMS HALLIDAY A beautiful Fall in La Sal When there is a lag in the conversation (or a slow news week) the weather is always a good topic of conversation. Herein lies Northern quandary What you read each FROM SIERRA LA SAL by Maxine Deeter Wednes- - day is written late Sunday or in this case early Columbus Day (Monday) morning. Things can change a lot in that length of time, especially this time of year. But, as I write, it appears that we will enjoy one more delightful Indian Summer day. Therein, another quandary, recently debated at our house. Is it Indian Summer if we have not yet had a killing frost? I dont know, I just know the weather has been glorious. And that, despite the warning we dont 'get precipitation soon we are going to have to spit to bathe next year. Putting aside hygiene worries, Ive greatly eqjoyed the early fall this year. The gardens and orchards are still producing, the flowers continue to bloom in splendor. Ill worry about spitting (and bathing) later. It makes it great for the recent pot luck suppers. Just wander into the garden and pick what is ready to prepare your pot luck oflering. Could be fresh salsa, an apple desert, something prepared with new potatoes. This must be what the garden of Eden was like (Without the weeds!). Lot of smoke in La Sal the last few weeks. The "Feds that i if. have been control burning.
