Show THE SAN JUAN RECORD Wednesday, October 10. 2001-Pfe- ga 6 Alternative to missile shield Dear Editor Some nutty idealist contended that bridges, rather than fences, made better neighbors. Perhaps this ridiculous notion should be tried. I suggest we join with Russia and China and build a bridge across the Bering Strait. The span is 55 miles over mostly shallow water (the bridge connecting the Florida Keys is 120 miles long). This bridge would open those countries to American Tburists and start many new industries that those countries would choose to nurture and protect. The cost would be less than the missile shield and would provide a great deal of work - during the building and the operation. - fflrs'jSirfia The San Juan Record welcome Icttcri from our readers. "As I attended a Meet the Candidates meeting, I realized the numerous opinions even our community has. I felt some tension bn some subjects and some possible resolution on other subjects. I know this community can come together if everyone looks deep and finds that some talents lie in the communication department I was privileged to experience one persons talent, and it is very much appreciated. This man was willing to just jump in and help out He has a talent in speaking two languages. Speaking two languages is a definite opportunity to link two worlds. Worlds that we do not realize exist among us. Kenny Nielson was a link that was gratefully appreciated. He used a talent he has to help two. families communicate in a much needed way to repair and help the most important unit there is, families. Thanks, Kenny, for taking your time to use a pretty cool talent in a pretty cool way. I do hope maybe this can help to make us look deep and find if we have a communication talent that can help our community to be at its. ;best.
