The San Juan Record Just leave it Blue Mountain Golf Course Dear Editor In response to Names for new Golf Course, just leave it Blue Mountain Golf Course. Better yet - name it for some of the dedicated ladies who golf this course. For the record my dad, Lewis C. Fuller, owned part of this ground. He sold Clarence Black his lot for his home and then later Mr. Black turned the bottom into a trailer park. My dad later sold the remainder of the ground to the VCA, for homes in the circle for the superintendents and a StafT House, which later became the San Juan Hospital. The property ran down under the hill to a beautiful creek that ran at the bottom. This was our cow and horse pasture. Dad raised some potatoes and sugar cane, but there were many prairie dogs and it was more suited to cow pasture. My sisters and brother grew up here, Rigby Wright's home was my home till I married in December of 1945. I am seventy-tw- o years old and barely remember Mr. West, whose idea was this? Very poor taste. If I remember right, my dad bought this property from Mr. West, I am not positive because I never remember anyone else owning this, only our family. Incidentally, Sherry Behunin, who is one of the ladies golfing in the picture, is one of Lewis Fullers daughters. When 9 hole was cow pasture it was just as hard to walk up then as it is now. We would wander up an old cow trail to bring the cows home to milk. I could take you much farther down memory lane and include the Allreds, Edwards, and Christensens, but then that would be another story. I do hope this will enlighten some folks and make others think a little bit if some of you remember more than I do, lets hear from you. Do not name this Old Man West Golf Course. Monticello lies at the bottom ofthe most beautiful mountains, the Blue Mountains. Betty, Clyde Sonny, and Stephen: I join your committee. - HOMETOWN NEWSPAPER FOR SAN JUAN COUNTY. ISSN Dear Editor We heard recently Empire Electric is charging $125,000 to move the power lines on the new golf course. This doesnt include the trenching or buying of the line, which the city will do. This seems rather exorbitant in our opinion. And indeed, Empire Electric said they would lower the price if they could keep the franchise with the dty (which the city voted to buy back last year and is on hold because of lawsuits). Looks like retaliation to us. That having been said, we propose a fitting name for the new golf course: "The Empire Strikes Back." Sincerely, Scott E. Boyle Cassie S. Boyle Main. MonOcafci.UMi. A blatant example came to light this past week. Prior to the golf course reconstruction and the attempt to purchase the system from EE, the City wanted to run power to the base of the damn on Loyds Lake. Empire said it would cost approximately $60,000 for them to install the conduit, and pull the necessary wire to supply three phase power from the corner by North Creek adjacent to the old 7 fairway if the City would provide the trenching. The City held off because they wanted to bid the line expansion. However, EE policy does NOT allow for any other electrical contractors to expand their system. Utah Power does not have this restrictive and monopolistic Blanding 82 BARGAIN OF THE MONTH Help Is Just Around The Corner policy. Now the City wants to bury the power lines that cross the new golf course and run underground power to the pumps at the base of the damn on Loyds Lake. The golf course contractor, Daylen, will provide all the trenches. Empire would only install the conduit, line and connections. Empire states they will charge the City $125,800 for just their portion. But, they added, if the City will drop the attempt to purchase the system, they will lower the price to $56,900! SoundB to me like they need to change their name to Extortion Electric! But, they look so generous giving those $1,000 scholarships in full view of the press. If the public really knew Empire, they would side with 80 of their elected officials and back the City in their purchase attempt. John K.
