The litigation nullified the Citys negotiated seven year contract to purchase power from Deseret Generation. A district court judge ruled in favor of the City, but the ruling was appealed. The appeal is currently before the Utah Supreme Court, with no indication ofwhen oral arguments will be heard or when a final ruling will be released. The entire electrical industry has changed, with the result being skyrocketing prices on the open market. It is certain that the City would never be able to secure the favorable terms of the original purchase contract. Both sides have been faced with intense financial pressures as a result of the lawsuits and uncertainty.
