Show 1 THE SAN JUAN RECORD Wednesday, May 2, 2001 - Page 20 Letter regarding school district (continued from page 8) elusion: He writes he has never made an inappropriate recommendation in 30 years, and perhaps he has good reason to feel directors includes some that way. The District staff of former teachers and administrators who, folks tell me, were mediocre during their best days. However, since they were promoted up to the District level they how conclude that whatever they do is fully acceptable. When it comes to student learning and academic performance, our San Juan District students score lower than the Utah average in every reported category. Several years ago the late Apostle Richard L. Evans wrote a short article pointing out what we are, we are becoming. His main message was that we would be the same in the future as we have been in the past unless we change how we think and how we act As citizens of the San Juan School District, we should benefit from the advice of Dr. Einstein and Mr. Evans. We should insist that District officials change the kind of thinking that so-call- has created an unsatisfactory learning environment for students. If they are unwilling to explain what their plans are for improving student academic performance, then perhaps we should insist on hiring people who will. More to come.
