Actually, borrow t h 1 8 observation from a former favorite columnist, the exI chief of police in Moab who used to write a very entertaining Police Blotter. Why is it that the only ones who cant hear a yammering mutt in the middle ofthe night is the dogs owner who is sleeping soundly only a few feet away!? I could rant and rave on this subject, but I leave that to CG and Cuz. Besides, in my current sleepless state, Im just a little cranky and might say something ugly. Now, for the rest ofthe story. In the early 1970s, when I first moved to La Sal, Chet Smith was around the area. He had cowboyed for Charlie Redd for decades and was a bonafide hermit living on Hatch Point in the winter and the La Sals in the summer. He did have a cabin in La Sal and ventured to the land of barking dogs and ilushing toilets on occasion. He had a sure-fir- e method for taking care of yammering mutts who interrupted his sleep. In his words, that dog just barked hisself to death! And now, for the news. Two thirds of the La Sal contingent of the Junior High cheerleading squad hosted a dance last Friday night. It was attended by most of their families and a few friends. The community center was cutely decorated and there were lots of platters spinning. Any kind of tune you wanted was available.
