Show THE SAN JUAN RECORD Wednesday, March 22, 2000 - Key Economic Indicators for San Juan County Page 4 Community Development Council meets The San Juan County Community DevelopmentVisitor Services council met recently to discuss a variety of community and visitor issues. The department has committed over $14,000 in grants to help support events and projects throughout the county. Grants submitted to the Community Development office through the regular grant program are considered for funding from TVansient Room Taxes generated by visitors to the county. The council heard that the Four Corners Interpretive Center was recently awarded $2 million in federal money to build a center at the Four Corners Monument. The federal portion of the amount needed will be matched with $500,000 from each of the four states. Money has been secured for the building but more is needed for construction of a vendor village" to replace the homemade shelters now used at the TVibal Park. The Community Development office is currently working with SmartUtah to present an Internet and Technology Expo at CEU in Blanding. The conference will be a great opportunity for San Juan County residents to find out about technology and the Internet, to visit exhibitors, and to find out for themselves how easy it is to use the Internet in the hands on workshop. Seminars will offer topics of interest for everybody from How Do I Turn This Thing On, to Setting Up and Doing Business On the Internet. Senior citizens will be served as well as familes and even farmers and ranchers. Technology for everyone is the theme on April 11 from 11:15 a.m. to 7 p.m. at CEU in Blanding. The council is available to county residents to assist with information about those topics. Council members from each community are: Sunny Redd from La Sal, Dena Hunter and Dick Meyer from Monticello, Barbara Tate and Harold Lyman from Blanding, Toshonii from Cliff vision ofParks and Recreation will be conducting a training session of the Utah OHV Trail Patrol here in Blanding. A Great Western Trail raft report is now available for general public review. The proposed route off-highw- ay off-highw- ay COMPANION would be designated along es- tablished roads and trails. The purpose of the trail is to provide a connected, trail experience that can accommodate the entire trails community. The public is invited to comment on the draft report.
