Show Bluff THE SAN JUAN RECORD Wednesday, March 1, 2000 - Page 9 considers zoning, briefly by Freda Aron The spectre of Planning Zoning by the Bluff service district raised its weary head once more at a public hearing in Bluff, and was pleasantly and cheerfully rebuffed again. County Commissioners Ty Lewis and Bill Redd plus county Administrative Assistant Rick Bailey, had a most enjoyable meeting with much laughter, some suggestions, and of course no solutions. The key word is tweaking". In other words, what can be allowed without change will be allowed without complaint. If it can be worked into the current ordinances, and will not change the style and manner of the facility, then it can be tweaked" and will be ac- cepted without comment, there will be no protest. Buzz words such as cottage industries, industrial varia- tions, land uses... multiple use, agricultural use, rural residential, controlled dis Entertainment, Maestro, PLEASE tricts, etc., made the rounds. When it was all over, Rick Bailey admitted it was the best meeting hed had in a long time. What everyone at the meeting was told was the zoning ordinance is 30 years old, created in 1970 and the 1990s have brought changes beyond belief. If we want some unique zoning, it will cost money, but if its something the county board can work with, within the present categories, that would be fine. We cant charge the whole county for individual services, he said. Bailey admitted that Bluffs rapid growth in the last five years show the need for change. He added, Unusual Bluff, the only one in conflict, and also the only one where the potential for board members is endless. Everyone is willing to serve." As always before, no matter what kind of planning, what kind of discussion, the end result is business as usual. the Armory was a familycom-munit- y oriented affair with Bluff might just be losing her title to Hostess with the Mostest" to Blanding. It was Hot, the kind ofjazz to die for. On Friday evening it was Blanding time. Storytelling at Melanie wrote of her own terrors and experiences. Sherwin (whose exciting good looks had all the females swooning) wrote in the abstract (as he paints) his dreams, thoughts, ideas, and mental impressions. Both poets reached the audience in different ways. Musician Juantio is a 16-year-- prodigy, a student at Whitehorse High School in Montezuma Creek, who first touched the piano at the age of five, without any lessons. He has since been predomiwrites his nantly own music and plays it his self-taugh- way. t, As I listened I thought, he plays music of the ages, it flows from century to century, music that is within the soul, that has universal appeal. His first musical piece was begun at the age of 12. The Hovenweep Sonata, a descriptive journey through the four seasons at Hovenweep National Monument. It is through the efforts of Impresario Phil Hall of Nizhoni Bridges, plus the cooperation of Edge of the Cedars Deborah Stevenson and Mike Nelson that the artistic and intellectual needs of our communities are being CORTEZ SEARS filled.
