Show THE ZEPHYR SEPTEMBER 1991 PAGE 15 Humans Only, Please have the "intolerant, extremist environmentalists" questioned whether mining, grazing, and other commercial uses are really the "highest and bear uses of the public lands, but they are even beginning to suggest that the plants and critters matter, not only as they benefit humans, but that they have their own Independent claim to be allowed to live Not only on this planet. But maybe the plants and critters wouldn't feel so bad If they only knew how few humans were also considered important enough to matter. Federal law stipulates that the public lands be managed only for the "needs of the American people." To hell with the rest of the world. If you listen to the Grand County Commissioners, they also say to hell with the American people and with Utahns who live outside Grand County. And to hell with all those people who live in Grand County who don't believe that roads and bulldozers are the economic salvation of the county. Nice folks we've elected! A TOUR FROM US OR WE'LL SHOOT THIS DOG. TAKE The Task Ahead won't be a fair game. Our county commissioners are already using your tax money to fight against the land and the environment Gene Nodine announced the new BLM planning procesa for the Grand Resource Area at the first meeting of the newly formed CITIZENS AGAINST THE ENVIRONMENT COMMITTEE, (pronounced-Gra- nd County Advisory Council), to give the groups the best head start possible. It's interesting that the head of the Moab District BLM is a full member of this council. No one was allowed on the council who did not pass the rigorous, ideological litmus test. This Anti- - Environment Council is funded with Grand County tax dollars routed through Economic Development channels. More fun and games ahead! While the planning process grinds along, we hope that care for the BLM lands will BLM employees who are fulfilling the public trust continue to come from the fine, lower-levWe can only hope that the BLM is not too far behind the Forest they have been given. Service employees who have recently formed their own Environmental Ethics group to encourage land "stewardship" in the Forest Service. Look for notices in September and October announcing "scoping" sessions conducted by the BLM to identify issues that they will consider for incorporation into the new Grand RMP. Consider coming to the September 9 Slickrock Advisory meeting and sharing your feelings about what YOU feel are the best uses for Negro Bill and Mill Creek Canyons, the Slickrock Bike Trail, and the Sand Flats area.
