Show PAGE 25 THE ZEPHYRNOVEMBER 1990 Center passed a resolution at their July meeting that said the transfer of the State Lands In the Sandflats area should be a precondition for going ahead with the theatre project While the BLM now considers the land exchanges at least 2 to 3 years away, we seem to be hearing a lot these days about Kokopelll National Theatre funding bills In Arts Congress. Most recently, $250,000 was Included In the federal appropriation bill for a feasibility study for the project (To get a truly unbiased feasibility study, theyve proposed using a team from the U of Ul) Also, Sen. Gam keeps moving the $6 million bill along through Senate hearings. Maybe they'll get the bill through Congress this year after all. Some felt full scale development might be more appropriate In an already developed area -- - like downtown Moab. It's clear there Is no Intention to do this. "Wolftrap of the West will be at the Sllckrock Bike Trail. 259-298- 5 FINAL THOUGHTS Whats sad, Is that I still actually like the basic concept of this project I still think It could be done (on a small to moderate scale) In a manner that Is compatible with, and complimentary to our present lives In Moab and Grand County. But, I don't like to see a development project with an Impact so potentially large, thrust upon this community by a handful of people, most of whom have a financial or "Job" stake In the project I wish the people pushing this project had the confidence to ask the people who live here what they would like to have happen. It will The community Itself should strongly support this type of development If be their lives that are changed Moab becomes "the Wolftrap and Art Center of the West After all, we have chosen to continue living here (or have moved here) because Moab Is Moab and Is not Santa Fe.
