Show PAGE 8 THE ZEPHYRNOVEMBER 1990 KNUTSON - BIERSCHIED om home (continued) understand I can always cut It out of the Interview. But as I wander around town putting this paper together, I talk to a lot of people. Unfortunately, I hear more comments about the personality and character of the candidates than I do about the Issues. I hear one specific comment about you, Blerschled And I hear one specific comment about you, Knutson. Can ask both of you about It? Blerschled: Sure. Knutson: Fine by me. Zephyr: Ok. First David Knutson. People complain that youre manipulated by your family and that youre a mouthpiece for your mother. As for you Dave Blerschled, people claim that you're an opportunist and a professional politician and theyre not sure where you stand on the Issues. Who wants to go first? Blerschled: Ive got a problem with mine. I don't consider myself an opportunist I do consider myself a professional when It comes to politics. As a Job, I enjoy this kind of kind of work. Ive had several discussions like this with people today who were this thing, concerned about It I think that In today's times, we're going to have to have full-tiprofessional, qualified leaders. We're competing with a lot of different places. So I dont think Its opportunistic to go to the people and ask them to select you to serve them In a Job. "Opportunistic" means trying to bamboozle those people Into getting a Job. I think going out to the people, presenting yourself In this manner, and getting that Job, proves that you have their support Yes, I would like It and It would be a full-tiJob and I'd be proud to serve In It I would consider It a profession and I dont feel ashamed about that You need leaders and I dont think they can be part-tim- e. Opportunistic? No. Caring about the Issues and wanting to do well for the community? Yes. Zephyr: Mr. Knutson. Knutson: I'm aware of the perception out there that my mom basically runs the commissioner here. Thats not the case. But the case Is shes tremendously supportive of me and has been as long as I can remember. When I needed her, she was there. Now, the roles have turned and she needs me. She depends on me for her an shes as I would never of me can as be. to she the be her Involved and to proud deny opportunity be visible. It makes her so proud that I let her do that If what's required Is that I push my family Into the background, then Im not the man for the Job. Because I am my family. My family and my religion. That Is me. I cant separate It But she doesnt run lt....Shed like to. Zephyr: That's It Thanks. I 702 SO.
