Ihx-ky Women can now alter fatigues Women soldiers issued or purchasing male fatigue uniforms may now have them altered, officials say. But, they may not be altered to achieve a form fitted uniform. According to officials, the Army decided to lift the ban on the altering of mens fatigues after women soldiers were authorized to wear them. The sizes available in mens utility uniforms have ben expanded to meet the needs of women soldiers. Also, every effort is being made to have the smaller sizes available for sale and issue to women. Fatigue trousers may only be altered in the crotch, seat and waist. Authorized alterations to'the utility shirts are limited to the sleeves, shoulders, collar, side seams, arid back waist length. The fatigue uniform must be loose fitting after alterations are completed. Officials also stress that soldiers may not add pockets or flaps to the sleeves or shorten the sleeves by cutting than off. Chapter 15 and Table Issue and Sale of Personal Clothing, contains information on the alteration of uniforms. (Editors Note: This message applies to women in the active and reserve components. Fatigue uniform policies for men remain undianged.) (ARNEWS) 15-- 2, AR 700-8-4, Compressed time working well at CAMDS By SP4 Bill Wright Courtesy of the Desert Star (Tooele Army Depot) themselves. Although its early to make any definite conclusions, said Liepnieks, we can say that so far the compressed time schedule has worked out real well. The employees are for the most part very, happy and of course, the savings speak for themselves. Presently, 163 CAMDS employees are working the four day week, as well as 51 support employees in the Ammunition Surveillance Division,- Munitions schedule was implemented at the (ihemical Agent Munitions Disposal System ((AMDS) Directorate last October and so far, the change has shown virtually unanimous acceptance ployees, as well as substantial the depot. from em- savings to According to Andy Liepnieks at CiPersonnel Division, because the (.AMDS plant now is in operation only four days a week instead of five, use of fuel oil and electricity has dropped 20 percent, resulting in a savings of more than $138,000 for the first quarter of FY SO and an additional savings of more than $103,000 for January alone. Tills compressed time work schedule is a test project authorized by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) and is part of a program designed to evaluate the effects of alternate work schedules. Areas of study include efficiency of operations, effects on energy consumptvilian ion. overtime and other areas where government costs are involved. Also im cause of the long commuting time and the two additional hours of work. Another alternate work schedule being studied at various other installations is flextime, which would allow an employee to report to work any time between 7 and 9a.m. and then work a regular eight hour day. This plan has also met with favorable employee reactions and portant is the response of the workers The ten hour a day, four day a week work operational results. However, because of the assembly line" nature of much of TEADs mission, such a plan is generally regarded as infeasible to fully implement here. . Whether or not compressed time or flextime will spread to other depot direc- torates or other government agencies on a full time, permanent basis will be to a large degree dependant on these studies. So, some day we may all be working from 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and looking forward to a three day weekend every-week- ! The plant will be on compressed time until April, 1981, and OPM is continually evaluating the schedules effects on overall operations and employee morale. Liepnieks stated that only very . minor problems have been encpuntered with the schedule, but indicated that many residents of Salt Lake City, or other distant areas, may find the compressed time schedule a hindrance, be .
