Show THE OLD ON COMB UTAH RIDGE HIGHWAY DUGWAY 95.......1956 & 2002 In the early 1950s, a "new" road to Natural Bridges National Monument and White Canyon was built, mostly to.improve access to uranium mines in the area. It included the construction of this "dugway," down the sheer cliffs of Comb Ridge. UDOT maintained it as Utah Highway 95, a gravel and dirt road, that was passable most of the year (except for flash floods and heavy snows). In the early 1970s, however, old U95 was completely reconstructed and paved. The dugway was abandoned and a massive road cut a few miles south was blasted out for the new highway. The entire project, from Blanding to Hanksville, was completed in 1976 and called The Bicentennial Highway. Le PAGEI7 |
