LAWYER WAS NEATLY CAUGHT employed by firm to collect debt from himself for three bears a certain brooklyn business house has been trying to col elect lect an undisputed bill of 0 from a lawyer whom I 1 will call baker because his real name Is neither baker nor whenever a col lector has asked for the money the lawyer has scolded him like sixty for bothering a man of large affairs with small a matter as a bill tor 20 the other day the business house received a typewritten letter from the lawyer manifold copies of which had probably been sent to many other brooklyn business houses it read in part as follows I 1 take the liberty of writing you thinking you may have some claims on your books that should be collect cd I 1 undertake collections u branch of my business upon the prin aiple no collections no charge of course I 1 do not bring actions at law lor nothing neither do I 1 aue unless authorized I 1 bel eve that collections are stepping stones to other legal business and give an opportunity to become acquainted in my method of doing business thereupon the business house sent the following answer together with its bill against the lawyer we have at hand your favor of the dinst asking us to send you some of our uncollected bills and we take pleasure in sending you herewith a bill which we have been trying to collect for a long time success if you can do anything in this matter we would be pleased to send you other bills for collection will you kindly let us hear from vou at your earliest conveniences 7 maybe this doean doesn t appeal especially to the lawyer s sense of humor but it strikes me as being funnier than many a story that is not equally true brooklyn eagle
