why kellogg could not spare him the late rev elijah kellogg it la said was once fiercely opposed during one of his pastorates by an infidel in the town who was a leader in all opposition to religion and took much satisfaction in discovering incon sis tennies in the lives of church mem hers and in publishing them through the neighborhood for some reason he decided to remove to another part of the state meeting the pastor one day he said well I 1 suppose ou know I 1 am go ing to leave town and I 1 suppose you will be glad of it glad of if why no replied the doctor I 1 shall be very sorry to lose you you are so useful to me in my work here I 1 hardly know how I 1 can spare you the man was much taken aback and asked how is thata why rejoined the pastor every time a sheep gets its loot out of my fold you bark from one end of the town to the other you are the most useful watchdog that I 1 ever knew
