| Show sports of all kinds drilling contest and baseball game in the afternoon labor day was fittingly observed in eureka the celebration being arranged and successfully bained out by the eureka fineis union the entire camp in holiday attire and throughout the day the streets were thronged with people many of them visitors from the other camps of the gintic tintic district there were also a number of visitors from other cities of the state who had been attracted here by the splendid program of sports THE PARADE the parade formed on upper main street at about tea clock president P J of the eureka miners union acted as marchal of the day being assisted by city councilman D J bussell who is also a prominent member of the union the parade was made up as follows eureka union band float bearing goddess of labor miss edna kussell with fourteen guards dressed m bright new overalls jumpers eureka miners union strong eureka barbers union Cigar makers union members of the park city and eureka base ball teams m uniforms city officers in carriages officers of the miners union and speakers in carriage floats etc AT THE HALL after the parade the following pro gaam was rendered it odd fellows hall music by eureka union band address by president P J Bec nation by ehner Dun carT the afternoon was taken up with sports of vinous kinds for old and young ng tug of war drilling contest races base ball game etc THE CONTEST the team from parl city won out in the drilling contest by drilling a dist ance of 32 inches in the granite lock in fifteen minutes and eplett of eureka drilled 31 inches and received second the first prize was and the second 50 pol lowing are the teams entered and the distance drilled by each H kelly and leroy of park city 83 inches J and eplett of eure ka 31 inches and charl e holmes of eureka 27 inches charlie sam son and isaac isaacson also of eureka were entered and were making a splendid record when a drill broke off in the hole and they w ere forced to stop the judges were james a Fl lerbeck and thomas jones while W H webb eted as time keeper the dilling contest was pulled off shortly after one clock and was wit by a couple of thousand people |
