VP Mi' I love the fact that some-Qone else touched this and worked on it and cared I love the fact that someone else loved fabric Os much as I do if not more because Q itwassohardtoget She replaced some of die boring standard closet doors with ones that look just like old frontier cabin doors with the support hoards holding diem square And die sign from her grandfather’s glass shop that used to be on 100 North in Ixigan hangs in her kitchen “Everything’s a work in progress” she said of her home “Nothing’s done ng yet” Maren Scott is obviously a person ' who uses her artistic talent often but one of her newest-foun- d skills stems from a foot-hig- h stack of antique quilt blocks that were made by an ancestor 100 years ago The fabric designs that the old pieces inspired are sold around the country and will soon be on the racks of a Logan fabric store Scott calls this particular fabric line “Emily Jane” after the ancestor who made the original quilt blocks in the late 1 800s Last year when Scott's aunt Logan resident Marge Olsen passed the family heirlooms on to her she was drawn to a particular strip of blue silk I Qvil War A fabric line consists of two or more fabrics that are meant to be used together and compliment one another and all of Scott’s lutes blend an antique reproduction with a unique design of her own wmlfing “I love the fact that ” she tries to explain why she is so drawn to the old quilt blocks “Quilting gives you a connection to a generation back I love the fact that someone else touched this and worked on it and cared I love the fact that someone else loved fabric as much as I do if hot more because it was so hard to get” Scott particularly feels a connection with Emily Jane Larsen “I’m just terribly interested in her and I don’t know why” Scott said Scott rifles through a box of old pfro- tos — there’s one of someone she doesn't even know but she just loves the old photo — and finds one of Emily Jane with some of her family members She tells about the family lore of Emily Jane’s father being the first to grow The family of Emily Jane Homer Jardine Larsen middle an ancestor of Maren Scott Scott has drawn inspiration from quilts designed by this ancestor and others wheat in Clarkston and excitedly talks about being able to use her artistic talents to honor her predecessor Scott has been an artist for some time she has illustrated seven books so far and is currently waking on a calendar and a book of poems She got her start in fabrics with the help of a phone friend who runs a quilting store in the Midwest Scott had sent copies of her books to ha friend and had said she was interested in fabrics The quilt store owner showed Scott’s artwork to one of her fabric suppliers he sent the artwork up the line until it fell into the hands of the people at the King’s Road fabric mill ' Now her fabrics are sold in stores around die country in Better Homes and Gardens Quilting magazine and in the Keepsake Quilting catalog The Emily Jane line will also soon show up on the racks of Stylish Fabrics in Logan Scott said her new entry into designing fabrics has been successful though it could be more so if she pursued the venture more aggressively Her main priority has always been ha family she said |
