ALMOST A NATIVE SON representative came very close to tal v being born in california representative needham of califor nia was born in an immigrant wagon in carson city nev while his father and mother were on their way may across the plains to california when need ham first ran tor for congress in call ornia he be was opposed by the mem bars of that strong Calil fornia organ the native sons of the golden west it was stated that needham was not a native californian and thus not entitled to the support of the nd na tive sons I 1 admit I 1 wasn gasn t born in california said needham in making his reply to the charge but it wasn gasn t my fault I 1 wanted to be born in california and would have been it one of my fathers mules drawing his im migrant wagon had not taken sick at carson city and held the family up there for a week or two
