A Very “Worn” Way by Unduy Marshall atari writer "Worn"? Exactly what is the definition of “worn"? Most people would describe their favorite pair of jeans or an old tattered blanket they earned faithfully with them when they were a child Jim Young a CEU art professor described “worn" as " an investigation into finding definitions for the word worn" He says that “naturally it is in the expression of ar art in an art medium" These artists are students from BYU and are currently working on their Bachelor of Fine Art's Degree The works of art are clearly defined as to the personal style of the artist however each piece has its own individuality which seems to act as a window into the mind of the artist For instance and in many of her other Sunny Bybee paints apples in her paintings she includes patterns of circles and spoons in the background Roland Thompson another artist from BYU likes to use garbage such as dirt and shards of glass in his pieces Each artist has his or her own unique way of expressing themselves through their artwork however sometimes this is not always the case Thompson states '1 escape into myself and intuitively create these pieces My explanation maybe isn't very sophisticated or maybe I don't know what they mean any more than somebody else That’s just how I work" The “Worn" exhibit is a very impressive and inspiring show by many talented and promising new artists The gallery exhibit will be open until self-portrai- ts November - f ire' "& m I—” 5 1 An insight into the next Gallery exhibit?
