aren’t talking about the just grease monkeys tinkering under the hood of a car or truck Engines are extremely complex today The computer used in cars today are as complex as the typical desktop the "E" back in CEU by Becca Thornton staff writer Efforts are being made to help install a new found sense of Eagle pride in the lives of CEU students faculty staff alumni and community members Long time residents of Price and alumni of CEU will remember a time when a "Big CEU" was erected on Wood Hill The former CEU made of wood is now laying on the hill in shambles In recent ASCEU student government meetthe "E" has been ings the decision to ct made Jennifer Batchelor ASCEU historian was given the responsibility of tackling this task In her efforts Batchelor has discussed the idea of making a new "E" with the welding department in hopes that an E could be made that would last forever The members of the department have agreed to weld a new E made of sturdy materials with a strong base All efforts to raise the E will be put on hold indefinitely due to the many obstacles that stand in the way The land which the E once stood on is no longer school property It is owned by Neal Smith and in order to elevate the E a mutual agreement with Smith and the officers of ASCEU must be made Batchelor is in the process of contacting and making arrangements with Smith There is also a legal side which must be looked at before any action can be taken There are several forms and papers that must be filled out in order to receive the proper permits to raise the E Once completed these forms will be the means by which the E will stand forever After an agreement has been reached with Smith these forms provide an assurance that the E will remain standing regardless of Smith's ideas for personal use of the land at a later date The forms and permits are simply a guarantee that Smith cannot expand or sell the land the E will be located on Due to the harsh winter that has been predicted there is no possibility of the E being raised until there is proper whether she said The biggest barrier in the raising of the E is the cost Although the welding department has agreed to take on the task of making the E the parts are estimated to cost upwards of $3000 There are limited funds in the ASCEU budget and they simply are not enough It is for this reason that ASCEU plans to make the raising of the E an event that will involve anyone and everyone affiliated with CEU They want to make this a joint effort with many in hopes that the E will install this sense of Eagle pride in more than just the students They are accepting donations from any community businesses alumni members or others affiliated with CEU Anyone interested in donating money to this do so by writing a check to ASCEU's Big E and dropping it off in the student government offices in the Main Building or mailing it to ASCEU do Jen Batchelor 400 N 451 E Price Ut 84301 Anyone who would like to request more information on the E may contact Batchelor 0 in the student government offices at ext 3647 All donations are greatly appreciated and they will help the members of ASCEU move towards the goal of once again raising the E and giving everyone who secs it a share of Eagle pride cause can 637-212- |
