salutatorian this year Breaking with supposed tradition two S McKay Price and Pete Deffcndol — have been selected Tor honors due to their pair of perfect 40 averages Charlene Chiaretta with a 399 average will serve as salutatorian for commencement activities Price age 2 1 is the from Murray I le is the son of Steven and Kristen K Price I le will receive an A A degree in business at graduation having attended CEU on scholarship Alter graduating from Murray High School he began college studies at CEll in 1993 Prom January 994 to January 9 he served an LDS mission in Korea lie commented that (lie Korean culture is "a different world hut a fun one" lie returned to CEU this year for winter and spring quarters Because of numerous advanced placement credits attained in high school he has been able to 1 1 complete his degree in less than two years Price plans to major in business and minor in business information systems on scholarship at the University of Utah next year Deffcndol is the son of Ted and Susan Deffcndol of Spring Glen and an alumnus of Carbon High School lie is 9 and has completed an AS degree in general education on scholarship during one year at CEU I le was also able to do this because of AP and concurrent enrollment classes he completed in high school He plans to attend Utah State University where he has also been awarded a scholarship and where lie intends to major in computer science I le commented that he likes live “atmosphere" at CEU with its small classes Chiaretta is a student and (he mother of three children who will receive an associate 1 degree in nursing ( ADN ) at commencement After graduating from Emery High School she earned her LPN 23 years ago at what is now Utah Valley State College She went on front there to work as a nurse at the State Training School in American Fork and at the Child care Ctmmued frtm page ( final goal in this program is in educating the public about child care issues and making them aware of the choices available in child care The new office is giving Anderson an opportunity tocontrihute to tlic world of child care She tuts traveled to several National Association ofChildCarc Resource and Referral Agencies (NACCRRA) symposiums “Many of the conferences we have in Washington DC when we go up to the state offices a lot of the meetings that we have with state officials arc to support child care and encourage them to direct the funds that arc available to child care services or promol i ng qual it y care for children" Andeison said She is attends monthly directors mcctines in Salt take City and is involved in getting a lending library started It will house hooks on child care nutrition games and even various toys that will he able to be lent out for the providers Anderson is excited about her position Fifteen years ago site moved to Price as a single parent of two children “There has never been this sort of resource in this area to the extent of this office” she says Something like attained a job at the CEU preschool where she worked five years She loved her job as the preschool head teacher however she feels that rather than having an impact on several children she can indirectly affect children's lives now The child thou-sands- of care issue is a personal one for Anderson she was a single parent for seven years two of those she was going to AHmi school and working
