Show CEU Friday January 30 1987 International students attend Positive message sent by dressing for success CEU J Magann of the Eagle Staff by Gus The College of Eutem Utah hu quite a few students who grew up in Utah Ota the other hand CEU hu also attracted students from the other side of the globe Toa Sagapolutele Kurt (Robert) The first and most significant statement a person makes to the world is a nonverbal one It is the one in which how they look is more important that what they had to say said Christine Schoppe during the College of Eastern Utah's forum mi 'Dressing for Success" January 14 Ms Schoppe is the mother of six children and is the director of the early childhood intervention She program at Snow College recently gave the same discussion at a National Association of Early Childhood Educators She used the example of the NixonKennedy presidential debate in dressing for success Although the majority of the American people favored Nixon before the debate the majority also agreed that Kennedy had performed more effectively This only group that feltNixon had beaten his challenger were those who had not watched the debate but listened to it on the radio This group insisted that Nixon had handily outdebated Kennedy arguing more dress they will remember you as someone who knows what he's talking about Second dress friendly People are more receptive to individuals who relax than and make them feel good rather than those wearing clothes that antagonize annoy or frighten them When dealing in a "suits only" environment it's a navy suit a white shirt and a simple striped tie That outfit tells people in a wide variety of professions that blue-and-maro- forcefully more persuasively ! we're dealing with Emily Willson David Tanner and Troy Hunt with Robert Wright providing music and sound Miss Willaorthe CEU president of the Phi Rho Pi club also placid first in poetry interpretation second in communication analysis and missed the finals with her partner David Tanner by one point John Williams placed first in oral interpretation and third in speaking to entertain Troy Hunt won the second place trophy in informative speaking and placed fourth in persuasion and fifth in speaking to entertain Nick Pappas placed fourth both in impromptu speaking and speaking to entertain Missing the finals by one point were David Tanner in both poetry interpretation and oral interpretar tion and Robert Wright in speaking to entertain The CEU Forensic squad and speech department would like to wu third and David continued on page 7 Billington Robert Marsom and Nijo Pritchard all grew up in New Zealand andor American Samoa and are members ofthe College of Eastern Utah football team and Sagapolutele Billington Marsom are all from Auckland New Zealand where they attended Mt Albert School Pritchard also attended Mt Albert School and then attended Leone American Samoa High School Nijo’s home is in Pago Pago American Samoa Sagapolutele and Billington are freshmen at CEU Sagapolutele an offensive tackle helped block this oast uason for Billington who plays islfback They were both recruited jy Brigham Young University and :hoM to come to CEU to obtain the experience a junior college can provide Sagapolutele and Billington are back in New Zealand his quarter due to difficulties concerning their visas Both wanted everyone to know that they hope to be soon back possible Marsom a sophomore plays tailback for CEU He wu recruited by Utah State University however he plans to attend either BYU or Hawaii next year HesayshechoM CEU because it wu a great way to get to America and experience new u u things Pritchard an outside linebacker wu recruited by coach Flodin Pritchard says that coming to CEU hu taught him to be independent He wants to use his education to help his parents when he returns home The four New Zealanders all agree that what they enjoy most about CEU isthecommunityfeelingofthis college They appreciate the special attention CEU provides both on the football field and in the classroom Even though they miss the green landscape and warm climate of New
