It is the belief of people at Carbon that Granite is afraid of us that those doing the managing feel that since they don't have a league game with us this year it would be better not to take any chances with a team the critics have picked for the cellar - EAGLES FACE TOUGH MAVERICKS TONIGHT Carbon’s Eagles traveled to Grand Junction today to play what is supposed to be a very tough Mesa College team In fact it is cited as the toughest in the history of the Colorado school Coach Mullins has a lot of confidence in his boys and expects to come home the victor however He thinks the Eagles have enough spirit to turn the trick The local boys are big and fast this year At quarterback is Louis Bosco flanked by two very fast halfs Neil Nelson and Charles Dixon Fullback Jobs will be split between Glenn Ilackwcll and Ronald Wilson The forward line is bolstered by Amadoo Beacco and The only team asking for dent approval as cheer-leade- stu- rs were enthusiastically elected by popular applause Members of the group were Merlene Powell Son-j- a Waite Carole Rich (a transfer from Granite) Arthur Valdez Stanley Hansen and Terry Fun-cann- on JUNIORS RACK MOAB 13-- 0 Dittos Breeze Post iackrabbits In a football game last Saturday night the Carbon Junior Dinos were held scoreless the first half The Moab Devils were held back from the Carbon goal line the whole game During the second half the Dinos were more determined than ever to take home the third win of the season On a punt return in the third quarter Jcddy Morley halfback flew with the ball across the goal line for the first touchdown of the game In the fourth quarter Charles Iloldaway end intercepted a pass and scored the second touchdown for the Dinos The golden toe of Parley Johnson made the only extra point According to Coach William Petersen the outstanding players were William Dixon and Richard Ghirardclll Both are guards Parley Johnson made some excellent kick-ofaccording to Petersen blow-for-blo- w By Kent Harrison Initiating football into Carbon's sport scene for this year Delta High found things a big tough coming out on the wrong end of a 41-- 0 score The game played last Friday night before an almost packed stadium highlighted the Hello Day activities With Carbon's explosive back-fiel- d showing sparks of brilliance Larry Regis Corky Wall and Phil Ilalamandaris combined to rack up large chunks of yardage which led to a 21-- 0 halftime lead The speond half was much the same as the first Delta failed to come up with any very serious threat As the score mounted Coach Jcwkcs sa' a chance to experience give his reserves and the bench was cleared After an injury which saw Phil Ilalamandaris leave the game Coach Jewkes caine up with a surprise in Dick Edwards who played a great game at fullback su-n- LAST YEAR'S SONGLEADERS The same lively squad that led Carbon's singing last year was reelected Members are Connie Plat-i- s Shirley Oppochcr Colleen Helen Liddell and Sally Simmons Sally replaces Kay Binks from last season's e fs Usually you can tell by looking Ends arc Frank Politano Jay Her- at a girl what kind of past she is ring and Clark Powell Filling the going to have guard positions are Charles and Frank Rinno KENILWORTH Eagle team members other than the above listed starting lineup MERCANTILE COMPANY are Terry Bowns John Siaperos Dominic Albo Jerry Mogensen QUALITY MERCHANDISE Don Wilson Gale d tackGlenn Kenilworth Utah John Cartwright IaVoy les At center is Ray Dalla Cortc Mraule Lynn Nielson Dave Raymond Johnson Charles Ghiradelli Scot Warcham Don Trauntvoin and Bruce Bean For Superior There is championship stuff hire EAGLES if the boys can get their share of Bi-ka- 200-poun- Piz-zu- to Silverware breaks The game tonight league affair BEAT Mesa a Vicki’s Inn Price Steam Laundry price is not utaii West Alain On Hlway DINNERS LUNCHES MORIEY'S EXCLUSIVE JEWELERS j |
