John Gledhill, Milford Resident Letter to the Editor: As citizens we should not be opposed to special funding to support local hospital and ambulance | services. These service are essential to our communities and assessed funds Dear Editor and Citizens of Milford: A while back, | was told the Attorney General had been contacted regarding the legality of people voting on a matter, who have a "conflict of interest" and does not abstain from voting. This question still has not been can greatly enhance __ their operations. Beaver City is currently requesting a 1% increase in sales tax to support the medical efforts in their community. Through this effort, a large sum of money will be made available to support the Beaver Hospital. Recently the Beaver and Milford Valley Hospital EMTs approached _— the Beaver County Commissioners asking them to support assessing a 1/2 mill levy, county wide, that would fund Emergency Medical Services (EMS). They proposed that these funds be split between the Beaver Ambulance Service and the Milford Valley Ambulance Service. The citizens’ of Milford Valley have in the past provided the funding for their ambulances through their local service district #3; not by county wide funds. This procedure appears to be a more appropriate method to fund the EMS effort. Ifthe 1% sales tax is passed for Beaver, shouldn't a portion of those monies be set aside to fund Beaver's ambulance needs. Minersville needs a~ new ambulance. I would suggest and support the Milford-Minersville-Milford Flats Service District levying 1 Mill for the support of answered and yet it goes on _ in about every meeting held in this City and County. Decisions are being made that effect each and everyone of us! What happened? A rumor, maybe. I am as guilty as the next person. If we have to attend every meeting held to Advisability Of Additional Mill Levy Questionable Western Beaver County EMS needs are funded through Service District #3. The current Mill Levy of .000691 generates $116,441. These funds are available to purchase new equipment and subsidize hospital operations The proposed 1] Mill increase would add $16,851. Ron = Wunderlich, who serves on the Service District’ Executive Board along with Russell Mayer and Warren Johnson, said he isn't going to sign the petition. "The EMT's should be working through the Service funding," District for he said. protect ourselves, then why do we have elected officials? . Management and personnel: One reason, no one wants to hospital's financial position. Milford purchased a get involved! Another, we are too trusting - "Oh, they . wouldn't: do Something that else, to us!" elected officials also appoint people to boards - you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours. Hey, that is known as the game of "Politics". But only a few reap the benefits, not changes have enhanced the new ambulance last year, and retired their old one to back-up status. Minersville has recently obtained a used ambulance from Gunnison. Their old ambulance is in questionable condition. Candidate the many. Or so it goes in Milford. People of Milford and Western Beaver County - Let's Wake Up! - before it's too late. Think about it. Start asking questions and let's get involved. My question now: Webster's definition: Derived from the Latin word "candidus" (white): those who sought office in Rome wore white gowns. 1. a person who seeks, or who has been proposed for, Is an Office, an award, etc. it legal to have controlling vote in a matter with a "conflict of interest" and if so, does that mean everything which has been voted on in the past would now be null and void?
