Show Badge City News PAGE 7 SEPTEMBER 9, 1904 Trees for the Baseball Fields Thirty trees have been planted, in the past two weeks, around the new baseball fields. Lenn and Steven Florence presented the idea to the Milford City Council last month as two separate Eagle Scout projects. The Council approved purchase of the trees, and the boys went to work. Lenn took the south field and Steven the north field. A 75-hour service project that will benefit the community is required to gain Eagle Scout status. ‘Applicants must earn 21 merit badges before they are 18-years-old. Each boy directed his own 15-tree project, and solicited the help necessary to complete the job. Not only was it necessary to plant the trees, a drip system had to be installed. Shaun LaOrange (pictured with Steven) helped with the planting and watering. Until the drip system was operational, a bucket was used to water the young trees. Vincent Cox and Blaine White were also willing helpers. And, Of course, Sam did his share. The Cottonless Cottonwoods are fast growing trees that will provide an abundance of shade.
