PAGES ~" AUGUST 19, 1904. ” Minersville Reservoir Study The period of public comment concerning the Minersville Reservoir pollution phase one study (92-3085) will close September 1. Findings from the study, funded by an EPA grant, will be evaluated and modified into a final report, which will then be forwarded to the Environmental Protection Agency. According to Harry Judd, Water Quality Division of the Utah State Department of Environmental Quality, the document will be used as evidence to gather funding necessary to address the pollution problems in the reservoir, the Beaver River, and it's tributaries. : Comments on the study or draft can be mailed to: Dr. DeVere Merritt: 368 Clyde Engineering - Building Provo, UT 84602 or: Harry Judd P.O. Box 144870 Salt Lake City, UT 84114-4870 Robin Bradshaw, Chairman of the Clean Lakes Water Board, is currently preparing his comments. He questions section 1-16 of the draft as related to Agriculture which states: Runoff and return flows from agricultural land appear to be major contributors to pollutant loadings in Minersville Reservoir. Bradshaw said the draft does not adequately address the pollutant caused by the large number of water fowl on the reservoir between October and April. Since this report is likely to be used as a guideline for yearsto come, Bradshaw also advises reporting loud and often to anyone who will listen that fencing the Beaver River is not a reasonable or - acceptable solution. Ray Macey, vice chairman of the board, is also engaged in some last minute evaluation of the draft. He said he intends to review the actual locations from which water samples were taken. Judd mentioned a meeting scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 23, at the S.C.S. office, 190 North 100 East in Beaver. Lynn Kitchen, local Soil Conservation Service advisor, said the meeting will be centered around a demonstration project to "show and tell" ways of using EPA money to reorganize the farms along (continued on page 8) Gloria Beaver Craw, County, Miss and Attendant Macie Bradshaw, Miss Congeniality, displayed the spirit of Beaver County hospitality as they distributed trophies following the Demolition Derby. Gloria will represent Beaver County at the State. Fair September 8th and 9th, and at the Miss Utah Pageant in June of 1995. She will be returning to the University of Utah this fall to continue her studies ‘in Anthropology, Math “and Pre-Med Preparation. Her goal is to become a Family Practice Physician in a rural area.
