Show T Hf MPK CiT PCAS UPSET CLU ARK CITY'S A S BEAT THE CU P, In their lxst elfort of the year, the Park City As downed a lioavily favored Club team in Heher League softball action on Thursday. June 13th. The As scored early and consistently in the 2 vistory. Several I 14-1- times throughout the game, the Club was able to tie the score only to see the As pull ahead. The fifth inning proved disastrous for the losers. They committed four errors which led to six unearned runs. SOFTBALLERS WIN BY JULIE CHRISTIANS We played Jos Pros this last Monday with we won, I didnt quite feel that the Softballers of 16-- 8. Although were playing up to par. Wednesday, we played the Park Cityettes and the score there was 20-This was much more of an exciting game but, of course, any game is when you play a team from your same town. In the past, we have had practices with the Park Cityettes, and they also helped us out on the Smorgasbord. So when we play them, I think each team is pretty relaxed and able to give a good performance. The thing that stood out in my mind most of all, and I am sure to others too, was when Patty Newman slid into third base. Now, that doesnt sound unusual, but Patty slid on her hands, face first, into the base and was called safe. The girl coaching third asked Patty if she tripped and she said No, I just thought at the second my hands would be faster than my feet. This next week we are playing the Untouchables Monday night at 8:30 PM, and Oakley, the team we lost to the first game, Wednesday at 8:30 PM. These two teams are very competitive, so we have been working hard on our batting, and I have been timing the girls at the dash to improve our stealing bases. At the present, our three top batters are Jody Morse, 778, Vicki Ross and Tammy Polychronis at 7. 50-ya- rd 600. Hope to see you at the games. You would be surprised at how the ball will climb up a steep bank and end up on the green, especially if the sand is a little moist or packed. On a normal trap shot just off the green that calls for a sand wedge or any lofted iron, the idea is to hit a small handful of sand onto the green however, it is the handful that the ball is resting on. The club must be picked up quite abruptly and almost in slow motion. On the downswing, the sand is contacted 2 inches behind the ball, and there must be a 1-- follow-throug- h. Fairway sand shots call for a different shot than one near the green The long shot from a trap calls for the most skillful of all golf shots. The ball must be contacted perfectly at the bottom of the swing, with no more than a few grains of sand being disturbed. |
