All three of these areas are famous snow that for the dry, fluffy, powder-typ- e graces the mountain slopes throughout the us with Dugway skiers. This resort is located approximately three minutes from Park Gty and offers ski package prices to the Youth Activities group as well as the Dugway Ski Club. This four lift area features four beginners slopes, seven intermediate runs, and seven expert slopes that prove just as trying and demanding as many of the slopes in the larger resorts. that skiing at Alta is comparable to skiing at many of Europe s most n resorts, and that if you can master Altas slopes, you can tackle almost any mountain in the world. The seven Park Gty ski lifts can accommodate 6,4(X) skiers per hour while the Alta lifts can carry alxmt 3, (XX) each hour. Park City West, one of Utahs youngest resorts, is rapidly liecoming a popular site ski buffs claim well-know- Lift prices The ski lift prices for the three areas are as follows: ALL DAY PASS: Park City, $6.50; Alta, $6; and Park Gty West, $6. HALF DAY PASS: Park Gty, $5; Alta, $4; and Park City West, $4.50. Other prices for certain lifts in each area and lift package specials vary accordingly to each resort. Complete ski schools are also available winter. In planning a skiing weekend, one should attempt to find the resort that liest fits his skiing abilities as well as his pocketliook. Ski runs The Park City resort features a combination of excellent skiing with the atmosphere of a rustic mining town. The area lxxist of 27 runs that are designed to suit the needs of all types of skiers. There are eight trails set aside for lieginners only and eleven reserved for intermediates. For the more qualified skiers, there are eight ski ruas including the Night Skiing Slope, the longest in the United States. Park City is also noted for its Condola Tramway whieh is the longest in America. Her home state is South Dakota. Kenneth Lieutenant First Mvrick and his wife Diana recently arrived here from Ft. Car-so- n Colorado. Park Gty sports the Phil Jones Ski School which is manned by more than 40 instructors while Altas Alf Engen Ski School operates with 15 fulltime e instrucinstructors and over 100 tors. The Park City West Ski School has e e and 40 approximately 15 teachers for their lessons. Rental drops Alta and Park City likewise have rental shops available for individuals desiring to Goldminers rent equipment. Altas Daughter and the Snow Pine, and Park Gtys Miners find both offer the latest and finest ski equipment along with the current ski and after ski apparel. For skiing fans who desire overnight lodging, the two resorts offer a total of fourteen hotels and lodges five at Alta and nine at Park City. Overnight costs Accommodations ranging from simple dorm-lik- e rooms for three to four people, to elegant, apartment-lik- e chateaus are all available. Lodging prices range accordingly from $5 to approximately $50, and usually requite advanced reservations. A $25 deposit to reserve and hold a room' is also required by many of the hotels in the area. Another asset of the three resorts is that they are all readily assessable to Salt Lake Gty and its transportation terminals. This makes them some of the most accessible ski resorts in the United States. So, when the time comes when ones skiing daydreams develop into reality, remember Utahs noted ski resorts, their reputations and facilities, and the famed powder snow. The award winning preschool television series Sesame Street has been awarded a $2,000,000 grant from the Office of Education to further develop their second season. The second season of Sesame Street programs began on November 9 and are being broadcast over 250 stations across the country. They are designed to reach and teach preschool children with disadvantaged four year olds as the primary target. The $2 million grant brings the total grants from the education agency to the series to $7 million. Survey taken The Office of Education recently took a survey to determine whether children actually learn from watching the program. Mr. Terrel Bell, acting U.S. Commissioner, said that we now know that such a program can be a wtrong positive influence on the educational advancement of the children who watch it. The survey proved that the program reduced the educational gap that usually separated advantaged and disadvantaged children even by the time they enter the first grade. JACK ALEXANDER The new series consists of 145 g programs. A Sesame includes Street cartoons, typical program Rims, puppets, singing. Moppets, and live sketches using actors. The action of the program takes place on a street called quite logically Sesame, an inner-cit- y street peopled by several men and women who act as continuing hosts for the show. Research financed by NCER&D . Two years of research and experimentation, financed largely by the agencys National Center for Educational Research and Development, proceeded the first series, broadcast over 200 television stations. Part of the Office of Education grant will enable the Childrens Television Workshop, which sponsors the program to reach even greater numliers of disadvantaged children. Model viewing centers are being set up in major cities throughout the nation for children who do not have access to a television set. The children will spend alxiut three hours a day in these neighboihood centers where they can take advantage of the learning offered by the television series and other related preschool activities. The Office of Education grant was awarded under the ammended Cooperative Research Act, which provides support for research and development and dissemination to improve educational at all levels. Another first Sesame Street was a first for the television industry. The trees, shipped to Salt Lake City from Minnesota, were picked up ly Mr. Arnie Anlcll, YAC Director, and some ineinlmrs of the teen club yesterday. liie lot will open tomorrow morning, Dccemlmr 5, at 9:00 a.m. Operating hours for the lot, which le manned liy YAC memliers will be, Saturdays 9:(X) a.m. to 12:(X) noon and 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Sundays the lot will be open from 3:(X) p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Price of the trees, 150 norway pine and 50 assorted including spruce, range from $5 to $7 and they average 6 to 8 feet in height. The receipts from the sale of the Christmas Trees will go for many worthwhile Ixmcfits for the incinliers of the Youth Activities Club. Communications, announced that he would accept liquor advertising. According to the National Association of Broadcasters this is the first chain of any size that has accepted liquor advertising. U.S. Communications is a member of the NAB but isnt one of the majority who subscribe to its code which prohibits the advertising of products containing more than 24 per cent alcohol. The stations in the chain are in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, San Francisco, Atlanta and Cincinnati. Stipulations say the ads are not to be run in or adjacent to programs particularly designed for children. Also prohibited are on camera drinking, endorsements by public figures or uniformed persons, suggestion of excessive consumption health claims or claims as to alcholic content, and suggestion that the use of distilled spirits contributed to individual achievements, personal acceptance, or a habit worthy of imitation. Replace lost money Perhaps this will catch on around the country and replace some of the revenue that will lie lost next year due to the cancellation of cigarette commercials. Advertising of cigarettes has been prohibited by a law passed last session by Congress and will become effective after the end of bowl season January 1. Dugway Movie Schedule |
