Show SECOND SECTION The DESERET SAMPLER, Fri., Sept. 12, 1969 angs Lose to S. Summit, Manti j Templars Drop Dugway 26-1-4 The Dugway Mustangs dropped their second game of the season as the Manti Templars leat the Mustangs by a 26 to 14 score in a game played ou the Snow College field at Ephraim. The Mustangs scored first but the winners came back with two touchdowns in each of the second and third quarters to take a commanding lead before the Dugway eleven got their second touchdown of the game late in the final quarter. A fumble on the opening kickoff gave the Mustangs the ball on the Templars 43 yard line and lehind the running of halfback Eddie Owens and fulllwck Mike Donnelly marched to a first down on the Mauti five yard line. On the next play Donnelly was hit as he crossed the goal line and fumbled with the losers recovering in the' end 9 But Can You Tell g Me His Name? He hits a lifetime hatting average of .314, led the National 5 times in and played League 4 times in homers in 150 or more games for 13 seasons. But can you tell me his' ... zone. runs-latted-- in name? He probably will complete a Hall of Fame career some day. making more hits than Lajoie, more homers than Mantle, total more bases than Ruth, and batting in more runs than Mays. But can you tell ine his name? He is one of those people who give you an honest day's work with that 100 per cent effort and he does it all without the dramatic or emotional popoffs. Maybe that is why he has been upstaged his whole career. For example, he won a National League batting championship with 200 hits when he was a mere 22 years old. Only Pete Reiser may have won one at an early age. But our unsung hero never got much of a chance to take a bow that year. You see Mickey Mantle swept everything in the American League for a Triple Crown." Another season he slammed three homers in one ball game. It only made the fine print in the morning's paper though! Reason: a few days earlier Rocky Colavito had bopped four homers in a 8-- game. . Fans are still debating the All Star outfield of Babe Ruth, Joe Dimaggio and Ty Cobb picked at the All Star game and it will go on and on and on. How about Willie Mays, Ted Williams, Mickey Mantle and Stan Musial come the cries from the "tube experts'! Most of the fans leave one of the 'greats' out . . but can you tell me his name? Maybe some quotes will help you! Last year the "Wall Street Journal" criticized my man because he said he'd like and thought he deserved, a job in some club's front office. The quote the critics jumped on was when my man said, "I don't owe baseball anything. He owed baseball, everything, said the critics, because he came out of Alabama with nothing. My man answered them though, 'True I Came out of Alabama with nothing, but so many of them came out of Alabama and everywhere else with nothing, but they hung on to baseball, and I don't think they know anymore about baseball than I da" He is now and when he finally hangs up his spikes, baseball will, I'm afraid, pat him on the back and say something to the effect of "See you later." The whole thing really erks me. Once he was almost discovered in Boston but his team picked up their bags and moved to Milwaukee. Man Milwaukee, now there is a town for you. I'm not saying that the people get carried away with their beer or anything but how come the city didn't support those great Brave teams of the 50s? And iny man tearing up the League too! Then it was off to Atlanta and that blazing sun wearing down my man day after day. He is respected there though. In fact he's made more progress in all areas in that Georgian city than salary and publicity. But can you tell me throughout his career his name? What? What's that? Could it be you've known him all I hope so. Hank Aaron is too an astonishing ballplayer to just be discovered. (TCV) along?
