Mag 1 RECREATION, ea GIRLS SOFTBALL The girls softball program will begin soon and it is planned to have two junior girls foams in the Roosevelt league; one or two in the high school age division one or two teams in the women's league. Watch for announcements regarding the sign up time in the communities. We would appreciate having anyone interest-- ' ed in assisting with the softball teams contact the recreation department to volunteer. es YOUTH CAMP The plans for reestablishing the Youth Camp at Uintah Canyon are supported 100 by the recreation staff and we are helping the committee with the plans for the activities which will be presented. BASEBALL PROGRAM The mustang and bronco baseball programs have begun with boys from 9 to 12 The 0 year olds are participating. officially entered in the league in Roose- velt while the 2 year olds will play an independent program against Roosevelt and Vernal teams through the summer. Patrick Wyasket and Ernie Martinez are working with the boys and they will be assisted by volunteers from the communities in teaching the game and dev- eloping the skills to become a very competitive team. EASTER DINNER AND POW WOW The Easter dinner and Pow Wow was well attended by the Tribal members as 700 9-1- 11-1- . Notice Expenditure of Revenue Sharing Funds This notice is to inform the memberthat the ship of the Ute Indian-IHbTribal Business Committee of the Uintah and Ouray Reservation authorized the ' use of $33,000 of Revenue Sharing Funds, dated April 23, per Resolution No. 3 1973, for the construction of a two-acr-e lagoon at Fort Duchesne. Tribal members should he aware of the fact that the Ute Indian Tribe is participating in the Federal Government's Revenue Sharing Program. These funds are given to the tribe and are to be expended in the following areas: 1 Public Safety 2 Environmental Protection 3 Public Transportation 4 Health 5 Recreation 6 Libraries 7 Social Services for Aged and Poor 18 Financial Administration and 9 Necessary Capital Expenditures Authorized by Law. The Cougarettea were the defending champions in the Ute Girls Tournament The Whiterocka Falcons defeated Bannock Creek Beaverettes to take third place in the event Consolation honors went to Utah State Aggies over the Oscos of Fort Hall. Cou-garett- It, 1t73 persons were served a fried chicken dinner at the new building in Fort Duchesne. Father Mason conducted church services in the afternoon which was followed by an Easter egg hunt for all the young people. Many prizes were available for the prize eggs but apparently some of the people ate them with out looking to find out if they had a winner and some prizes were unclaimed. The evening pow wow was well attended with many visitors here to dance and sing. Special guests included Danny TaD Bird from Towaoc who was the master of ceremonies, Eddie Box and family from Ignacio, Colo., and the Shoyo singers Also attending from Fort Washakie. were many of the girls teams who had participated in the tournament the previous days. MEN'S SOFTBALL The softball programs for men will begin the first week in June and it is pjanned to enter teams in fast and slow pitch divisions in the area. All persons who are interested in playing are asked to sign up at the recreation office. The fast pitch team will be invited to participate in the annual tournament at Rosebud, So. Dak. in July. VOLUNTEERS The most important persons in presenting a recreation program are the volunteers as their contributions in time and effort can never be adequately compensated except by many thank yous. We consider ourselves very fortunate that we have many people who are willing to give some of their time to assist us in our recreation program and are hopeful more people will be willing to give some of their time to assist in the program. CHAMPIONSHIP Recreation Department Plans Activity for Adults Only How about an evening of fun tagged adults only?? Th is what the Ute Tribe Recreation Department has in store for F lay, May 18, when the Uintah Basin Community Building will be transformed into a casino for Las Vegas Night. Rex LaRose, Recreation Director, Has announced plans for the event which will include a buffet dinner and an evening of casino-typ-e games. of Women the Alcoholism Rehabilitation Center will prepare the meal to be served at 7:30 p.m. Tickets may be purchased at the door for $3.00 which will include the buffet and play money. During the evening, play money may be redeemed for merchandise prizes such as small appliances, food and gift certificates. The Recreation Director has stated no one under 18 will be admitted to this activity due to the nature of the games which will include roulette, craps, black jack, chuck-a-lucbingo and poker.
