Spafford's ships about 30 tons of waste to Greenbay, Wis. daily, where it is made into tissue paper at the Fort Howard Paper Co. 1 Lawrence Falvey, manager of Spafford's, says he foresees What is a construction Continual from pope one both companies doing a booming business within a year, following a recent ruling by EPA requiring all federal agencies to submit paper plans by July 30. Spafford and Crossley are the e only paper rere-cycli- ns high-grad- cyclers in the Salt Lake valley. The EPA ruling has sparked a new recycling program at the General Services Administration office in Salt Lake City. Although details about the local program are unavailable, Denvers GSA office has had an ongoing recycling program with its 700 employees for two years, and it strongly endorses the conservation aspect of the new EPA requirements. Denver GSA executive Biddie y Lorenzo says 57 tons of paper were collected by GSA employees last year, saving 969 trees (by reuse of tree fiber) and 237,963 KWH of electricity needed to process new trees into fiber. In high-qualit- addition, $2,919 was returned to the U.S. Treasury Department through paper sales. Private businesses will find they can make money with their trash, too, she says. Other systems call for a second trash can for each employee or a communal container for salvageable paper. GSA employees separate their wastepaper by grade instead of dumping varieties of papers in the trucks of recyclers for sorting. Mixed paper, Falvey explains, must be sorted by the recycling company and therefore is bought at a lower price. While manila tab cards draw the highest price up to $130 per ton in Salt Lake City, mixed paper is worth barely more than newspaper, bringing only $15 per ton. answers, the best lines in commercial waste handling systems.
