Geological and Mineral Survey, notes statistical counts furnished to the Survey by Petroleum Information Corporation, show that rotaries at work in the mountain states March 29 numbered 173. Its another low for 1976-- 86 below the count on the comparable date a year ago... and the lowest level of activity in the mountain states since May of 1973. Utah currently has 18 active rigs, a drop of one over a month ago and a decline of 1 1 compared with the figure recorded a year ago. Bad news, too, is that oil and gas operators have drilled 29 wells in Utah as of April 1, compared with 44 the same time last year. Seasonal factors arc at work, of course, but the sharp decline is a reflection of the impact of 1975 tax and price changes. Utahs current oil and gas drilling operations as follows: Uinta Basin: 26 wells are carried in drilling reports as either drilling, testing for final completion gauges or waiting on equipment to move to the site for additional work. Fourteen locations have not yet had operations beginning. The largest and Cedar majority of these wells are in the Bluebcll-AltamoRim area west, north and northeast of the town of Duchesne. Six deep wells are Northeastern Utah's Summit County: in the Pineview field vicinity. One continuing drilling mostly deep test well in the area is below a depth of 17,000 feet. Southeastern Utah: A new well is starting in the Agate field area which is a deeper test in the vicinity. The George Graham Livestock So., will go to at least 1,650 feet, No. 1 Colorado-Uta- h about 350 feet deeper than the normal production in the field. Drilling is being done in the Wcstwater area and near Cisco Springs. A well in the Long Canyon area west of Moab is drilling below 5,900 feet. Grand County has 13 locations staked by operators scattered throughout the county for drilling but operations have not yet begun. San Juan County activity is still centered in the Aneth field area. Central and Western Utah: Odessa Natural Corp. has three wells scheduled in Emery County all to depths below 6,850 feet. Two wells in the Upper Valley field of Garfield County arc nearing completion. Tenneco Oil expects to finish the wells shortly. In Millard County, near the Nevada border just south of the town of Garrison, Needle Exploration Co., is waiting on a rig Needle to further drill its 10,000 foot test well, the No. Anticline. In Sanpete County, a deep test well. ..to depths of 20v000 feet or more... is beginning operations. Hanson Oil Company is drilling the No. 1 Moroni at a depth below 1,500 feet.
