Songs Cache County Meet Hears Hamilton The annual meeting of the Cache County Farm Bureau was held February 26 in the Smithfield Stake House. Activities began at 6 p.m. with the serving of a luncheon under the direction of the Farm Bureau Womens Committee, with Elda Hillyard as chairman. Alton Hoffman, president, conducted the meeting, which heard Elmo W. Hamilton, Utah Farm Bureau president, discuss current farm problems. Wasatch County Holds Dinner Meeting The annual Wasatch Farm Bureau meeting and dinner was held on February 28th at the Daniel Ward House in Heber City. Main item of business was the enactment of a revised set of Articles of From left Mrs. Elmo W. Door prizes were given away at the $2 a plate dinner. Committee for the dinner included Emer Wilson, president, Vernon Price, Edward Burgener, Russell Wall, John Robert Hicken, Douglas Edwards, Frank Chapman and Reed Gappmayer. Sanpete Annual Meeting Hosts Allen Olsen The Sanpete County Farm Bureau was held February 23 in Centerfield. The program was under the direction of country president Lee R. Barton of Manti, and featured an address by V. Allen Olsen, UFB Executive Secretary, who compared present day performance of farm programs with their promised Old farm programs never die, benefits. Mr. Olsen paraphrased, they just lose their benefits. The committee in charge of the annul meeting included, Kurt N. Sorenson, J. Keller Christensen, Dwight Malmgren, Jack Madsen, Neil Sorenson and Kenneth Whitlock. ; Morgan County Hears Harold Thompson Rulon Smoot, president of South Box Elder, presented a plaque to Sheriff service Warren Hyde outstanding recognizing County at the annual Farm Bureau Banquet on Feb. 13. The Morgan County Farm Bureau annual meeting and banquet was held February 28 in the Morgan Stake House. Speaker for the event was Harold Thompson, manager of the Federal Land Bank. North Box Elder Meeting Features Three Speakers The North Box Elder County Farm Bureau annual meeting and banquet was held January 29th in T remonton. A dinner and entertainment brought nearly Farm Bureau members together. Speakers for the meeting were Elmo W. Hamilton, UFB president, V. Allen Olsen, UFB Executive Secretary and Lynn Adair, KSL Farm Director. A drawing for door prizes donated by local merchants, resulted in few of those attending the meeting going away empty-hande- d. 150 Carbon County Hears Ed Thomas Carbon County Farm Bureau president, The Carbon County Farm Bureau annual meeting was held March 6 in Price. More than 75 were in attendance at the meeting which was held at the Crest Cafe. William Dause, president, conducted the meeting, while Lyle Bryner was master of ceremonies. The new county secretary, Mrs. Jackie Oman, was introduced. at the dinner meeting was Ed Thomas, manager of the new Utah Farm Bureau Service Speaker and also manager of the Utah Agricultural Marketing Assoclaton. He reported that the new Company, livestock auction in Salina has had steady increases in use since it opened a little over a year ago. He Indicated that more than 42,000 animals were sold through the sale in 1969. Mr. Thomas also reported on some of the American Agricultural Marketing Association's activities in livestock marketing. Thomas indicated that the UFBS Company has made arrangements to supply baler twine and wire through IFA at their plants at $4.80 per bale and $11.90 for wire. The farm manager reported that contrary to what many believe, many prices farmers have to pay have gone down. He noted that insecticides and herblces have generally done down but focused on tires, which have dropped in price during the last ten years. Under the watchful eye of Sergeant Gaylen Blackburn, three young men discussed their backgrounds and suggested ways parents and concerned adults could help other youngsters avoid criminal activities. They ' gave special emphasis to the drug problem. Talented youngsters from the county performed on the program, following the dinner. The committee in charge of the evening included Thurmon Moody, president, Phil Smith, Russell Styler, Austin t Lovell and James Nlckle. Farm Director, told the North Box Elder Farm Bureau that farmers must put a much greater effort toward improving their public image. Lynn Adair, KSL South Box Elder Meeting Features Lawman Award Special recognition was given to Box Elder County Sheriff Warren W. Hyde at the annual South Box Elder County Farm Bureau banquet and meeting, February 13 in Corlnne. Sheriff Hyde was presented a plaque by Rulon Smoot, Farm Bureau president, for his' long years of service given to the people of Box Elder County. Honors were also extended to past presidents of the county Farm Bureau and to the women's committee by Mrs. Andrea Huggins, women's committee chairman. On hand to receive awards were A. V. Smoot, J. H. Norman, Miles Ferry, Mrs. Alta Ferry, Della n, Owens, Iva Barker, Grace Jeppesen, and Elma Carter. Unable to attend were Adolph Reeder, Ralph John Holmgren n, Ella V. Reeder, Bernice Anderson and Rula Checketts. Mrs. Leslie Jensen received an award for her deceased husband. Guest speaker for the meeting was Elmo W. Hamilton, who pointed out that the segment of agriculture not under governmental control is healthier than that controlled by government. "Farm Bureau has long advocated producing for the market and not for government store houses," he said. He further stressed that collective bargaining has always been a part of the Farm Bureau and that it was one reason for the organization of Farm Bureau.
