Gary had owned it for about two years and had purchased it from Ed Peterson of Arcadia, Calif., but formerly of Newton. Ed had built the store in 1953 and was the owner and manager for three years then it was closed for 18 years until Gary had purchased it. Newton was actually without a store for about seven years when the Barker store also closed. a. Justin. Ps. just like the fact they're around all that food most the lime. Richard has had sugar diabetes since the age of seven and with complications of the disease by the spring of 1970 he began to have serious trouble with his eyesight, and by the spring of 1971 he was forced to resign his position at the Defense Depot in Ogden. In November 1973 Richard was able to buy the store in Newton from Gary Jorgenson. The store has served its residents for over 20 years. He's happy to be working again with the help of his family and friends. He has enjoyed the challenges that this opportunity has provided and enjoys meeting new people. He relies on customers honesty in the store in order to make a profit. His wife, Helen, works behind the snack bar counter as well as aide in running the store. After taking an course at the Murray Allen Center in Salt Lake City, a school for the blind, Richard received training to enable him to live with his handicap. Richard's mother is Eunice T. Cooley of Newton. His father Grant Cooley died in July. His mother is really appreciated for her great assistance to Richard and Helen and their children. dairy case situated in his store in Newton. Tamer Couples Return From Dakotas by Evelene Moody 1 Smithfield Norma and Alton Hillyard e and Lorraine and Walt all of Smithfield took their trailer house and cars and drove to the Dakotas and saw the monuments at Mount Rushmore, saw the Black Hills, the Passion Play at Spearfise, went up into Tremain, Mr. and Mrs. Stan Tiptrot, Mr. and Mrs. Kevin Tiptrot, Elizabeth Tiptrot and Sail Tiptrot all of Ogden. Also, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Yates, Debbie Yates, Malta; Vonnie Mickelson, Salt Lake City, and Mr. and Mrs. Clark Parker and Effie Yates all of Hyrum also Mr. and Mrs. Dale Kelsey. Norma and Norman Edwards and family attended the opening day of the Utah State Fair, Friday. They visited the exhibits, enjoyed the rides and for the entertainment saw B.J. Thomas that evening in the grand stand. Visiting their parents the weekend were Claudia and Michael Perkins and family of Orem. Michael's parents are Jessie and W.W. Per- Snel-grov- Canada, Saskoswa, then Alberta to Calgary and did sightseeing in Banff, Lake Louise then down to Seattle in Vanss, Lake Lowse then down to Seattle, Washington, where the Snelgroves took a cruise ship, the Princess Margarets, to Victoria. They took a bus tour around Victoria and saw the Vutchart Gardens. They all tried their luck on a fishing boat at the mouth of the Columbia River. They were gone one month and drove 4,000 miles. Jackie and Glen Hillyard and two of their children, Leisa and Angie, drove to Priest River, Idaho, to visit their daughter and sister Dixie and her husband Lee and Smithfield kins, Claudias are Virginia and Skabelund and children Celeste, Hoyt, Troy, Shelby and Travis. Mr. Skabelund is employed by the forest service. The Hillyards also drove to Spokane, Washington, to sightsee the town. Ttiey were gone the weekend and traveled 705 miles. Gwen and Tedd Richards and family of Bountiful visited his mother, Nora Richards in Smithfield and had dinner. They all drove to Franklin to visit another son of Mrs. Richards, Max and his wife Phyllis and children Nansi, Jerri and Vicki Jill who had just recently moved from Riverton, Utah, to Franklin where Max had purchased a welding shop and home. ' He was employed at Olsons Inc. in Riverton and Franklin prior to his going into business for himself. Deanna and Richard Peterson enjoyed a visit from her sister and brother-in-laSusan and Don Matlock of Fort Worth, Texas, also their children Donnelle and. Derek. They stayed two weeks. Also visiting were Richards sister and husband Delone and Ken Nelson and children, Tracy, Jenny, Jeff, Kimberly and Travis of Renton, Washington. Elsie and Charles Hubbard and daughter and Cleone and Don Dally drove to Grace to listen to their grandson, Elder Mark Hubbard, give his report on his mission to England in church. He is the son of Shirley and Merrill Hubbard. A Lee Hansen, and Mrs. Hubbard sang a duet I Stand All Amazed" accompanied by Cleone Dailey, a daughter to Mrs. Hubbard, Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Ilavi-lanAvon, held the Oswald Tiptrot family reunion at their home. Attending were: Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Olson and Mr. and Mrs. Neil Olsen, Hyde Paik; Mr. and Mrs. Ray Tiptrot, Mr. and Mrs. Oscic Tiptrot, Mr. and Mrs. Bill son-in-la- great-grandso- n, i d, and Travis, a sister of Ruths. Carol Chapman also came for the four day visit. Living in his parents home while they are in Saudia Arabia are Cheryl and Stan Watkins and children Tracy, eight and Tony, three months. They came from Tacoma, Washington, where Stan was a sargeant in the army but now is released. His parents are Carol and Tom Watkins. Friends may write them at: Tom P. The Watkins will be gone three more years and Stan plans on attending USU to work for his masters degree in political science. Cheryl wants to go back to school and get her degree in social science corrections (criminology) a secondary degree. Cheryl and Leon West and daughter Patti, Smithfield and Janet and Steven Thurston of Hyde Park attended the football game in Pocatellos Mini Dome, Friday between Sky View High School and Pocatello Highland High J.D. Van Orden, Lewiston. Also visiting the Perkins were their son Richard and his wife Billie Faye and family of Richland, Washington. They also visited Billie Fayes mother, Mrs. Ellen Shaw in Logan.
