Utah 14335 Sabacripliaa Ralci: 55 per year par year outside Cacha Valley SC Almanac by Pat Woodbury THE DAVID MILES family, David, MarGene and Melissa, have returned to live in Smithfield where he will be setting up a general dentistry practice. The theme of this year's Founders Day Celebration in Smith field is Improving the Quality of Life. I took a minute to stop and think about that today and all of a sudden it seemed terribly profound. It's just a simple phrase, but actually its what every person is dedicated to, at least to some degree. We are certainly all working constantly to improve the quality of our own lives and I'm sure no one can deny that no greater pleasure can be found than in helping someone else to improve the quality of their lives. I could have shot myself for not having my camera with me today as I drove from Lewiston to Smithfield. I was just approaching the Pepperidge Farm plant when I saw a woman and two small children picking up something along !he side of the road. It was abviously trash, whether recyclable beer cans or what I don't know, but they were Ailing huge garbage bags with the refuse. From the load in their pick-u- p truck I guessed that they'd been at it for a while. The thought struck me then that, even though I had no idea what they were doing it for, why not just for the pure pleasure of having clean surroundings? I mean, why not pack up the kids and just go clean up a dirty spot some day. Heaven knows, most of us could start with our own yards! Most everyone has heard, or at least heard of, recent pleas by President Ford to clean up the nation by starting with our own homes. In this past week's LDS conference some might have even heard President Kimball charge the members of the church with getting their houses and yards in order. Improving the quality of life is everyone's business, and when you think about it, it really isn't that difficult. v : p e W ?i A X Practice Opens In Smithfield Area A former Smithtield resident.
