Show 20 - THE CITIZEN - THURSDAY, 20, 1973 SEPT. j Sky View Sports Cats Drop Season Opener To Roy, By Vince Saunders Sky View Sports Correspondent Mistakes often mean defeat' or victory in sports. In football this holds especially true. Last Friday, Sky View lost the ball four times through fumbles while Roy hobbled it to the Cats but twice. The Cats also stole two passes only to have them wiped out by fumbles moments later. The result of all this found mistakes costing the Cats a possible fourteen points and a 3 loss to the Royals. At the nl of ine gam u looked as though the Bobcats would take charge and eventually come out on top. After picking up a Roy fumble, the Cats wasted little time as they went four plays for the score. A thirty-yar- d post pattern pass from Kim Hall to Howard Little netted the six. Val Gunnell, who would play an important part in the game, kicked the PAT and Sky View led It was short lived however as and Roy took the kick-of- f marched 65 yards in 11 plays for a six pointer. Key play in the drive was a' third and six for Roy. The Bobcats apparently held Lonnie Hipwell from gaining the necessary yardage for the first down. But an official spied something wrong and marched off a penalty for grabbing the tace masic ihus giving Roy the first down and new life. Seconds later, QB Clark Smith found Steve Bullard alone to the five. Hipwell blasted over from there to set up Lynn 34-2- 7-z- ip. 15-ya- rd Horspools tying point. Both defenses held tough through much of the second quarter. With less than two minutes in the half, Roy forced Sky View to cough up the ball on the Bobcats twelve yard line. Hipwell took a pass for eleven yards to the one and then pounced it over for the go ahead points. The PAT was good and with five seconds left, Roy had the lead it would never give up. The second half found Cat QB Hall fumbling twice in Roy territory in what looked to be sustained drives. Roy cashed in on both bobbles. Hipwell went thirteen yards for the first score and Smith found tight end Kent Smith open for a thirty yard touchdown pass. One of the PAT attempts was good leaving Roy with a 27-- 7 lead. Coach Earl Lindley, trying to generate some offense, sent in elk and deer hunting seasons could prove deadly, possibly the deadliest ever, according to the states safety and health officials. By deadly they do not mean for mean for the elk and deer-th- ey human beings. 1973 With present meat shortages and high food prices, state officials predict there will be more inexperienced hunters in the mountains than ever before. Not only will these hunters be inexperienced with guns, but many of them will be in poor physical condition which could lead to heart attacks through a combination of exertion, excite ment, alcohol, and high alti tudes. HEART ATTACKS have usually claimed more elk and deer hunters in Utah than shooting accidents. The following appeared in a Salt Lake City newspaper Oct. 23, 1972: Hunt-relate- d fatalities and injuries continued to mount, with thre hunters dead of heart attacks one from a gunshot wound, and one beneath the wheels of a pick-u- p truck. Last years high rate of heart attacks among hunters, coupled with the fact that there will be more hunters in poorer physical condition this year, has promptToronto of Salt ed Dr. Alan F. score yards between them.
