Com-pan- y is involved in recent discoveries of natural gas in two new areas in southeastern Utah and southwestern Colorado and has completed a new develop- ment well that aparently taps new reserves in an older field in southwestern Wyoming, said M. M. Fidlar, chairman of the board and B. Z. Kastler, presi- dent. The new discoveries are at Piute Knoll Well No. 1, located about 10 miles east of Monti-cellUtah and in Cross Canyon Unit Well No. 1 near Dove Creek, Colo., about 25 miles southeast of Monticello,. and the new development well is in the Middle Baxter field about 6 miles south east of Rock Springs, Wyo. The Piute Knoll well was completed in the Ismay formation flowing 1,260,000 cubic feet of gas a day through a 2 choke. Flowing tubing pressure was 310 pounds per square inch, casing pressure 505 psig., and separator pressure 270 psig. The company owns 100 per cent in- terest in the well and in 22,000 acres in the adjacent area. In Colorado, the Cross Canyon well gauged a maximum of 430,-00- 0 cubic feet of gas a day in a 4 inch choke during a drill stem test between 5884 and 5929 feet in the Ismay formation of Pennsylvania age. Bottom hole flowing pressure was 374 psig, and shut-i- n pressure leveled at 2306 psig. Mountain Fuel has more than a 30 per cent interest in the well and also controls a 100 per cent interest in 12,800 acres, in the adjacent area. . o, 1-- - 1-- Ul Benefits Lower Than Last Year The number of Utah residents receiving unemployment insurance benefits declined to 13,781 during the week ending Feb. 17 from 14,088 a week ago, it was reported by the employment se- curity office. The current level of claims for UI benefits is about 1200 below the winter season peak which occurred four weeks ago and is nearly 1100 fewer than the comparable week of 1972. Last year the claims volume topped out at 15,147 during the week ending Feb. 12. The number of new claims also dropped to 1,074 from 1,338 a week ago. The weekly count of new claims has ranged from 1400 to 2400 in each of the other weeks since Jan. 3. The claimant dropout factor consisting mainly of individuals returning to work climbed to 1,463. Job openings received by the Employment Security offices in the state during the four day week totaled 933 which is about 200 fewer than the weekly average thus far this year. However, on a daily basis (233) the flow of job offers was ahead of the year to date figure, 227. Airman Brian Brown, son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald R.
