The balance of the funds for highway work will be used for such things as improving primary and secondary highway systems in rural areas, acquiring rights-of-waand for forest highway funds1 The Utahn noted that about 349 miles of the Interstate System within the Beehive state are now open to traffic, with work in progress on all but about 8.4 of the remaining 586 miles of the Utah portion. Other Transportation Department projected expenditures during the fiscal year beginning July 1 include $12 (m) million for the Federal Aviation Administration, $107,300 for the Coast Guard, and $39,000 for the Federal Railroad Administration. Included in the FAA budget request is $10.4. (m). million for such work as the operation and maintenance of air traffic control and air navigation facilities, administration of the flight standards and medical programs relating to the operation and maintenance of aircraft and the airports program,11 the senator said. Other anticipated FAA expenditures in Utah during the year will include $1.5 (m) million to assist public agencies in the development of local components of a nation-wid- e system of public airports through grants-in-aiand $48,800 to finance the installation of new equipment and improvements to existing air traffic control and air navigation facilities. The Coast Guard funds are used to support the Coast Guard recruiting office in Salt Lake City, one Reserve Training Unit in Salt Lake City and one in Ogden, and to cover retirement pay obligations and survivors benefits to Coast Guard retirees and beneficiaries.
