Show THE SALT LAKE TIMES FRIDAY, AUGUST 11, 1967 Phone Company Acts Fair Premium Books To Curb Cranks Mailed to Utahns Mountain States Telephone reported today that its efforts to eliminate annoying and deceptive sales calls received an extra boost with the recently-announce- d support of the National Better Business Bureau. The telephone company has been energetic during the past year in a program of educating both the public and soliciting businesses in the proper use of the telephone in sales calling. H. E. Bradley, Dist. Mgr. for Mountain States Telephone explained, we strongly discourage indiscriminate sales calls which invade the telephone users privacy or fail to consider his interest or convenience. Were urging businessmen to call only bona fide prospects, not pick names at random; and to call at times convenient to the prospective customer, avoiding mealtimes, early mornings or late evenings. He further recommended that telephone sales people identify themselves quickly and honestly and avoid disguised or indirect approaches. On the receiving end, it is suggested that telephone users simply hang up on evasive, World Book Lore General John J. Bringhurst, Utah State Fair Director, announced that fair premium books were mailed this week to all previous fair exhibitors and participants. The Utah State Fair Premium Book outlines entry rules, deadlines, lists prizes, and presents information concerning the various departments and exhibit possibilities. He also explained that the book is sent free to anyone else interested in obtaining a copy. Requests should be sent to the Utah State Fair, Post Office Box 16006, Salt Lake City, Utah 84116. With the announcement of the premium book distribution, Mr. Bringhurst also pointed out certain important deadlines of interest to many fair exhibitors. August 14th is the deadline for entries in the horse department as well as beef and dairy cattle, swine, sheep, poultry, and pigeons, rabbits, and Future Farmers of America livestock. Entries in the annual Utah Horse Show Association horse show may be made by contacting Susanne Lee, secretary, Utah Horse Show Association, P. O. Box 14, Salt Lake City, Utah. This show will be staged August 28 - Sept. 1 in the grandstand. The 1967 Utah State Fair is scheduled August 26 - Sept. 4, two weeks earlier than usual in order to take advantage of summer vacations, better weather conditions, and the Labor Day holiday.
